Our DD has no set routine during the day, she wakes anywhere between 6-7am and only catnaps during the day. This means we have an exhausted little girl by 5:30/6pm.
I had completely forgotten the clocks had gone back today and I had a screaming overtired baby at 4:30 because she hadn't had her bath and Mum was trying to get her to have her late afternoon nap! So finally got her to sleep and now she's out to it and thinks it's bedtime!! She went down just after 4:30pm!!! If I wake her she'll start screaming, but if I leave her she'll be awake at 4am! What to do??!!!

How do you adjust your little ones to daylight savings when they have no set routine?

I dont have any special tricks sorry i just know that over a couple of weeks they slowly start changing over. Otherwise its an early to be and early to rise for a little bit..........really annoying when they are this young thats for sure.

for tonight you could possibly try a dream feed a bit later and hope that she sleeps a bit longer in the morning......thats my only suggestion sorry.

No advice as DD woke late today which was great as it meant she woke at her normal up time with daylight savings
But she cat naps through the day and I often have a very tired bub 6.30/7 if she has her last nap too early we have a tired baby earlier I just put her to bed earlier and it doesn't seem to effect her night sleeping (not that her night sleeps are great anyway) so you might find that she'll have a fantastic sleep anyway.

I shifted DS's day by 1/2 an hour almost two weeks back, then shifted the last 1/2 hour during the past week. It was a bit of a struggle keeping track of real time, and adjusted time for DS but I'm hoping it worked. First baby's DLS so fingers crossed.

I'd just let her sleep tonight. Then this week move her day by about 1/2 hour, then in 3 or 4 days move it the next 1/2 hour.

Well she kind of stirred at 5:30, so we got her up and gave her a bath, we would've had to get her changed into her PJ's anyway. She was quite happy, but was rubbing her eyes the whole time. She wouldn't feed as she only fed at 4pm. So I just put her down and she went back to sleep. So she was only up for half an hour.
I usually do a dreamfeed, so will do one tonight. It doesn't seem to affect when she wakes though. Some mornings she wakes at 6am, some she wakes at 7 or 7:30am.

It's hard because her bedtime depends on when she has the last nap of the day. If it's earlyish then she goes to bed earlier, if it's a bit later then bedtime is a bit later, so it's going to be hard to push her days back when everything varies so much. If only she would sleep consistently each day, things would be a lot easier!

Ah well, will plod along and keep trying to make bedtime a bit later each day and see what happens.

I know what you mean jaxs. Cooper had an hour nap this afternoon and fell asleep in my arms for another hour after that. I thought he was going to sleep all night! So we've just had him up about an hour or so and bathed and getting ready for bed and fingers crossed it all works tonight. I want to try and start some kind of routine in the next week or so (once he's adjusted to DLS). Kind of hard when they cat nap though isn't it? I'm going to at least start with a set morning wake up of hopefully 7am and go from there.

So hard to get them into routine when they catnap. And no amount of resettling has worked with G. I'm thinking of booking into Plunket family centre for the day and see if they have any ideas. I would really like to get her into some sort of routine before I go back to work in June. She's just so grumpy most of the day because she isn't getting enough sleep. Can be quite unjoyable some days I'm so grateful for the night sleeping, but the catnapping is starting to affect her settling at bedtime and she'll sometimes wake in the night and not due to hunger.

Yeh 7am wake up is what I'm going to aim for, but when she wakes just after 6 I often think what's the point in trying to get her back to sleep only to wake her up half an hour later?!
Ugh...

Well I spoke too soon, we had a 5.20am wake up today. I left her as she was just chatting away but then started getting grumpy at about 5.30 so got up but brought her into our bed and fed her and we both fell back to sleep until 6.45 then DP growled cause he said I might have rolled on her, ummm no I was rather aware that she was there and I woke up enough a few times to check on her.

Jax we are just going through a stage with Esme where she is waking a lot during the night so I know how it feels. She doesn't always want a feed either. I was thinking about a parents centre as well but we live so far away from one.

Clocks changing are such a nuisance with our babes! No set day sleeps makes it hard to to just 'push out' their normal nap times but I would aim for a couple of things to help her along Jax,...don't let the first cat nap of the day be before 9am, an earlier sleep just extends what they considered overnight sleep and don't let the last catnap of the day go past 5pm. So all of her little kips need to happen from 9-5. I would go so far as to limit the sleep to only 20 minutes and encourage 3 of them, but I don't know your bubs, that's just how I would manage mine when he wouldn't take set naps.

I'm doing that again with Wyatt because he's now waking at 5:50, instead of 7:15 like he did before time change. Yesterday he was a zombie by 9 and we barely made it, I think I had him in the cot zipped in his sleep suit by 8:50! But today I pushed again (and dad took him out on the farm for awhile) and we made it to 10. As they realize they have to do a long stretch in the morning, they add more time to their overnight sleep.

But like someone else posted, it can take up to like 2-3 weeks to really see a change! Good luck.
