Topic: hormone imbalance, what to ask dr?? Posted: 11 March 2010 at 2:03pm |
Ok, I'm off to the dr tomorrow to try to get my cycle sorted. I quick rundown... I had 2 depot jabs late 2008, and ever since my cycle has been a mess. We have been ttc for almost 9 months, but I have only ov'd 3 (I think) times in the past year, so obviously ttc not going well. I am pretty sure it's because of a hormone imblance, as I feel very pre af quite often, and have sore boobs a lot etc. (Also had major spotting probs last year) I've been taking vitex since November 2009, which helped with the spotting, but things still aren't back to normal, so I need more help.
So, I was wondering if there was anything I should ask my dr about tomorrow. I figured a bt to check hormone levels, anything else??
Thanks girls!! Trying to be as prepared for dr as I can be!!

Your GP will run you through the BT and everything they check for. You will need your day 21 and day 2 tests, you may even get a referal for a scan. On result of those tests you will find out what your next step will be.
If you have been charting print off the charts and bring them along

Yeah definitely take your charts as if you have only oved 3 times in the last year you may need to be referred to a FS for help to ov (ie. clomid). Are your cycles normal length even though your not oving?

My cycle has never been a normal length. Anywhere from 8-10 weeks usually. I haven't been charting either. I only know I've ov'd 3 times as I've had 3 af in the last year.
Not sure how I will get day 21 and 2 tests done, as I have no idea when 'day 1' is??
eeeek, might be more complicated than I though

I don't know anything about clomid. Does it help you to ov? Can your gp prescribe it? Or only a FS? Living in lil old Wangas I don't think there is any FS here, so I guess I would have to head out of town for that.
Gosh it all feels really hard and depressing all of a sudden!!

yeah I thought you had long cycles (me too) and it's makes testing pretty tricky eh! I would push for a referral as it is a long time to wait for BTs... they may do BTs for PCOS if your cycle is so irregular...
Clomid is prescribed by a FS (you can go through the hospital system if your GP refers you). Yep it helps you ovulate...

Thanks freckle. Don't ya hate long cycles!! Mine has always been very irregular and long. I have been wondering about PCOS, will have to ask the dr about that (might need to make a list to take with me ) I wonder what the wait is like for the public system?? I bet it's horrendous

Mine too... it didn't effect me with my previous preg but this time it's taking forever!! dunno what the wait is like up there but down here I have a 3 month wait for the FS so not too bad... Had to have a scan too and only waited 6 weeks for it and a hysterscopy which I only waited 2 weeks for!!... I can't justify going privately with two other kids IYGWIM...

My first two happened easily as well (1st month trying with DS and 2nd with DD) but this time things are much worse thanks to the depot jabs I had. I don't know if I could justify going private either, although I want another baby sooo much!! FX it wont come to that!! I guess i'll know more tomorrow after seeing my dr.

Thanks freckle. Dr went well. Had a good talk, and will get BT on Monday and go from there. He said he may send me to gyn who may want to give me clomid to stimulate ov. But dr is hopefull that having af in Jan is a good sign that my body may start to ov on it's own. So will know more next week.

No, never mentioned CD2 o CD21. Not sure what everyhting was on the BT form, but it says... LH, FSH, Prolactin, Oestradiol, Progesterone, HCG, and also complete blood count, creatinine and electrolytes.
Are you starting clomid soon Freckle?
