Topic: Loud Noises Posted: 25 February 2010 at 5:31pm |
So Jake gets really upset by certain sounds and we are wondering if its just dislike or a sensitivity...
It happens when he hears the following:
Vacuum
Leaf Blower
Lawn mower
Weed Whacker
Planes flying overhead
Tables being pulled along the ground
So is this just a stage of not liking loud sounds?

Yup, both my kids went through phases like that. Benjy would cry and hide from the vacuum for quite a while, we didn't notice when he stopped but now he LOVES helping me vacuum!

Yep totally normal, Caden used to get frightened by so many things at that age. He still gets a bit scared of certain things now days, but not as bad as he used to.

I found it helped a little if we got really excited about the things they were scared of. Like when we went to the beach we'd make a big deal of how fun it was jumping in the shallow waves and they'd take their cues from us and gradually realise it was fun not scary.
Maybe you could do the same with planes "Oooh look a plane!" and wave to it or something?

I agree with caraMel, Oli used to be crazy freaked by the waste disposal, so we started warning that we were going to put it on, giving him the chance to go and "hide" if thats what he needed to do. He now comes running in when he hears it going....he was the same with the food processor, but we lifted him up so he could see things whizzing around inside...now he is fine.
