1 month old awake during day

My DD was also like this at your DDs age. Slept like a dream during the night, had one 3-4 hour sleep during the day, but could very happily stay up longer than most people would allow their babes.

From memory I didn't leave her awake in her bassinet. She is demand fed and was always fed to sleep before being placed in her bed. My only suggestion would be to wear her. Have you got a carrier at all? Like a wrap? You could wrap baby up on you and go about your business. Babies that small (in fact all babies) thrive on being close to their mammas. You would probably find that she will drop off to sleep as well. It is comforting and relaxes them and if you pottering around the place, your movement should certainly help her nod off.

Lucas will often be in his cot awake moving his arms about but not crying within 10-15 minutes he is asleep.

thats the best way to put them to bed, awake. and if she is hapy to lie in her bassinette then i would just leave her.

I have a ten week old little girl who still does exactly that! Doesn't want to go to sleep and then has a massive catch up sleep every few days. She also lies there for ages staring. So I leave her for a while and then go in and gently rock her and a lot of the time she falls asleep. I also play white noise which helps.

This morning though she had been in there for a good half hour and was starting to make restless not happy noises. So i went in and said "for goodness sake your supposed to be asleep, now go to sleep". I bounced her hammock once and went to put some clean clothes in her drawers, when I turned around she was zonked out LOL! this is the second time it's happened!

Apart from just keep persisting and not to get stressed out about it, I don't think there's much you can do, you can't force them to go to sleep. Putting her in her bassinet with no stimulation is good. I went to the plunket family center and the lady there put her to sleep by boring her, by not being able to see anything and rocking.

I started doing this last week and it was starting to work but we then went away for the weekend and it went out the window, so am starting again today. They say sleep begets sleep so I am trying hard to get her off to a good start to the day with a good nap after her first feed. I also made a note of how long she was sleeping, a bi of a pain but at least i could add up the hours and see that it wasn't quite as bad as I thought. Just longer naps would be good.

I think some babies need a little help in learning how to go to sleep :)
