Topic: coming off the pill Posted: 17 November 2006 at 9:39am |
Hi, I've been lurking around for a while (trying to find out what I can to prepare...) and am all set to take my last pill tomorrow.
We're going to TTC pretty much straight away but am wondering how long it takes (roughly) to ovulate after coming off the pill? I know it'll be varied from person to person, but would love a rough idea from those who've been through it, e.g. when your first 'real' AF appeared, that sort of thing.
Anyone know?

Can vary from a few days to a month or longer. Depends on your body!

A few woman on here have actually gotten pregnant in the first month coming off the pill so you may not even get that first AF.

I was wondering if that would happen for us... I'd be quite happy if it did.
On that note, when do they date the pregnancy from if that happens? The first day after the one-week break (i.e. the day you'd normally start the next pack)? Or do they just refine dates as the pregnancy continues?

I came off the pill in July and we are casually trying to conceive. I have had a series of short periods (16 days) and a couple of normal ones (25 days) in between. I'm not charting as we are pretty happy to keep it casual for the first while. If I'm not pg by early next year we will probably look into charting etc.
I have sort of been keeping an eye on my CM to get an used to what it is like at different times during my cycle.
Good luck

I came off the pill in July, and had my normal bleed that I would usually have between packs, then got preggy within the next couple of weeks.
Although I knew when that "period" was, I got sent for a dating scan to confirm dates, because really I had no way of knowing when I would have ovulated.
According to scan dates, I probably ovulated about 3 weeks after finishing my last pack of pills. But that's just me!

Thanks for those replies - that's helping me get my head around things.
So it got me thinking and now I'm wondering (for those who are/were in this position) when and how often did you take tests? I'm going to start with charting, but until it gets into a rhythm I wouldn't know how long to wait... did you test when you got pg symptoms?
I figured I'd wait at least two-three weeks or until some symptoms, but knowing me I'd find it hard to wait very long...

I didn't test early. I felt a bit funny at first like something was in my tummy etc but waited until my period was overdue to test. At least the positive test was less a surprise to me than to dh!

Thanks - this is all interesting info. Well, the pill is all done with now and we're trying our best
It's funny how I'm noticing every little feeling in my body now - I'm trying to keep relaxed and just see how things go.

I tested probably every second day from 10 days after the last time we did the deed. With my first two pregnancies i got positive results day 10 (very very faint) and with my last pregnancy it took till 2 days after my period was due to get a positive result. Man i went through some pregnancy tests cos Im way to impatient but i hear the $2 shop is selling them now, there was a thread on here about it.
Good luck. oh and i got preggie each time within 2 months of coming off the pill.
