8 weeks pregnant first time and at this rate am going to deliver my own child as the independent midwives around central and southern Wellington are saying no no no :(
Has anyone had any experience with the Wellington primary care hospital midwives? I understand it's shared care with a group of them with outpatient appointments. They are also quite busy and sometimes see you first in the second trimester. When it's time you and on the hospital doorstep and cross your fingers while a random hospital midwife delivers your child.
I've not used them myself but friends who have have found them very good.
Keep ringing round the independant midwives as sometimes they take a long time to get back to you. I know you've probably tried everyone, but have you tried Harbour City Midwives (Sue Whitley, Deb Carr Porter and Jenni Doust)? They have been great for me this time round. If you don't have contact details for them just PM me and I'll send them through.
The other thing I would say is that although all the stuff I read talked about the importance of the relationship you build with your midwife over the appts before baby is born, I personally found that what really mattered was what they were like once you were actually in labour. Ollie was delivered with my back up midwife there and although I hadn't thought I liked her very much she was fantastic. In the end, that's what really mattered to me - I didn't care who was there - just that I felt safe and supported.
Oh...and I don't know if it's just a Wgtn thing but I've not been seen by a midwife until the very end of my first trimester or into the second - I don't think that's unusual.
