My only experience is of being in a full campground being woken up by a crying baby in the middle of the night isn't much fun. No idea who the people were or even where they were camped but the noise carried through the whole camp. Just my 2CW.

We went camping on Labour weekend (Mika was 8.5 months then). She loved it. I didn't sleep all night cause I was worried she was too cold - it was only 3 degrees - but she and DH slept fine.

We're definately going again soon.
BTW, she didn't cry once for the whole time we were there.

Def go! We took #1 camping at 5-6 weeks and then again at 1 and #2 will be 13-14 weeks when we go this year.

Lots of blankets and warm clothes and they are happy.

We camp in tents too. Took DS when he was almost a year. Put a woollen jersey on before bed and then sleep in a sleeping bag if he kicks his blankets off. I also put a beanie on Jack too and slippers. It gets really cold where we camp and we had no probs (well other than him shoving a raisin up his nose and it getting stuck, him cutting 2 teeth and getting a bone infection so he woke a few times each night lol).

We are taking Ava this year and she'll be 4 months.

We go camping every year so Astins first camp was when he was 6 months and aside from his hay fever playing up he was great! we have a huge tent! and it holds ALOT of heat!!!! so we were all sleeping without blankets!! no chance of Astin being cold!!

HAVE FUN!!

I wish we had taken the girls when they were younger I don't know why we didn't lol. The younger the better I say! It only gets harder once they are crawling then walking as you end up chasing them the whole time. But when all they can so is sit there they just go with the flow lol.

Yay.....We've been wondering if it would be ok to take DD next year (Jan or Feb) and wasn't sure so this thread has been great seeing others experiences. We spend a LOT of the summer camping and thought we were going to have to miss out this season.

monikah - sorry for hijacking

Camping is totally do-able! The younger the better IMO! We took Lauren camping from 6 weeks old and she was absolutely fine! The hardest thing I found was keeping her hands warm at night. We invested in a sleeping all in one from Kathmandu and put socks on her hands at night to keep them nice and toasty! We also take a mosquito net and hang that above the portacot so nasties cant get in and bite her face during the night!

We took a small blow up paddling pool and filled it each evening with warm water for bathing. We will also be doing that this year as I do not want her going in the communal showers just yet.

Lauren absolutely loves camping and best thing was first night camping she slept through for the first time at only 6 weeks old!! Must be all that fresh sea air!!

We go camping atleast 5-6 times per year and will continue to do so for many many more years!

As for the crying, I can think of far worse things happening noise wise when camping than a crying child lol!!

Not sure if you are b/f or not, but when we took Lauren last Christmas I wasn't b/f anymore, so at night I just filled a thermos each night with boiling water and kept that close by so that if she woke up and wouldn't settle I could quickly make up a bottle without hassle. I just wanted to be prepared should the need arise at some shocking hour of the night/morning!

Happy camping

yea totally. he has always been FF so i was trying to figure out what to do but a thermos sounds like a great idea so he gets a hot bottle. he has slept through for aquite a while but you never know who might startle him tripping over a guide wire. lol. all the tents are packed together and it is lethal. lol. i trip over them all the time. during the day will be fine as there is a kitchen and indoor area and stuff, the camping is mainly just a sleeping/storing arrangement. the P&T portacot i just got on TM zips up on all sides and top so no critters getting in there :D its a wee bit of a PITA though cos we gonna need a 2nd portacot and a bigger tent for the year after. lol

We took our 3 mo camping last year, and he slept WAY better than he ever did, I think cause he was cooler outside. We have a P&T's portacot and we put a sheepskin underneath him which helped with the warmth cause they do get cold. Also sleeping bags and hats and mittens cause they wake up with freezing little hands, but otherwise, we had a great time, the paddling pool is a great idea especially as its getting so hot.

For those of you who have done the camping thing, did you just flag the routines while you were away? How long did it take them to resettle afterward?
