Just want to see others experiences of this.

Cooper goes blue, either his lips or his whole mouth area, looks kinda like a really bad case of wind.

He is wheezy & is on ventolin, combivent, and ab's at the moment incase of an infection. He's had nebulisers a few weeks ago & his sat levels were done yesterday & are normal ( which I thought they would be cause he was a nice shade of pink at that time!)

He seems to go blue when he eats or after he's eaten and when he sleeps. I've been told by a sleep therapist friend to get his transcutaneous C02 checked as well.

Anyone else go through this & what was the outcome?
Kel

By the sound of things, you really need his saturation levels to be monitored when he is turning blue - maybe you could borrow a portable saturation montior????

He's got no heart murmurs or anything wrong with his heart?

Like I said on FB Jake had this from the time he was born til he was about a year old. We have heart issues in our family so I was concerned but I kept getting sent home and being told not to over-react It was freaky and horrible!!
In the end he seemed to grow out of it before we were able to force anyone to look into it further. I'd sit and watch him sleep though. I was terrified he'd stop breathing or something!
Hope you get more answers than we did hun!!

Ollie only did this when he had a chest infection, on ab's and ventolin etc. It was usually postural so we wouldn't leave him lying down for long and would prop him up on a tri-pillow for sleeps in his cot.

Has the Dr listened to his chest? If it's clear sounding then I would maybe see about getting his heart checked over, maybe talk to your Dr's about it?

Yep listened to his chest.

The first dr I saw was good & I think I would have got more of a reaction from her if I had managed to get into see her again. But the Dr I did see didn't query the blueness or suggest anything. I had to push her to get something stronger than ventolin. The nurse was the one that sent me for the sat test on my insistence. The dr just looked & didn't bother with it.

This dr just said we dont' diagnose asthma until 1yo so you cant get a preventor....

I wonder if I can hire a sat monitor?

Tonight again he was blueish, this is while sitting up. He was having breathing issues at the time. Not overly rattly as I'd given him the combivent but still not breathing normally. I was asking my Mum can you see what I'm talking about & she agreed.

I just can't get over this Dr not focusing on the fact a baby is turning blue! Am phoning Dr's in the am to book in with the first Dr even if I have to wait until Monday to see her.

Thank god for angelcare monitors.

Maybe you could take him to A & E when he's like that? You would probably get to see a paed the same day that way. I would hate to have a baby turning blue

I have contemplated doing that Marisa.

When I said to Mum tonight about it she was gobsmacked that we don't have private paed's here.

It certainly sucks when you've got to watch your little so closely all the time.

I would also take him to A&E when it happens again (especially if you can't get in to see the doc you like), they may keep him overnight to monitor him properly. Turning Blue isn't normal.

Please keep us updated.

Or if you are going to go to the GPs video record him doing it. Then you have proof and something for them to view

Had the Dr today, she is doing a paed referral. She couldn't hear anything wrong with his heart & thinks it's low oxygen cause of the gunk on his chest, but AB's aren't fixing that & because it's been going on for about 5 weeks now we need to do more.

He is not bad enough to be sent straight to the hospital, maybe if we went yesterday we would have been.

He's happy at the moment bouncing around in his jolly jumper talking to his big sister

Deported

This is the second opinion or going back to the Dr (Dr#1) I started with. I agree he's not bad enough to have immediate admittance. She put him straight on the nebuliser & made a face when I said that the other dr the other day didn't, I think if I'd seen Dr#1 last week then more would have happened then. He has good days & bad, today has been much better but then he did have a nebuliser this morning.

The Dr#2 the other day was hopeless, you would have thought that if a mother was concerned enough to get her baby's O2 levels check then you would have done more. She said he had no wheeze and that he had a chest infection. Today Dr#1 said he definitely has a wheeze & was so rattly that she couldn't almost hear his heart!

Hope I make sense...you know how it all rumbles around in your head!

Oh & today I had specifically booked to see Dr#1, I would have gone in yesterday but had something else on so had to wait until today. I was unconvinced by Dr#2's treatment that I wanted to go back to the good Dr

Just to add, kids hearts are incredibly hard to hear even at the best of times. We had several (really good) docs/MWs miss Daniel's problems just cos they're hard to hear. And by that, I'm not meaning to imply that it's necessarily a heart problem.

BUT, it's good you're being referred and checked out by paeds. The "good" doctor's opinion makes sense and hopefully paeds will be able to get on top of the chest problems and that's all it is.

Spencer used to be like this as a new born for a few months, and looking back so was his sister. I thought it was just wind.
Spencer has also had a few cases of bronchiolitis and heaps of chesty coughs.
I haven't noticed any more blueness but i'll look out for it again I think.

Pomkiwi, both my kids had wind/colic...& grew out of it at the usual time.

It's very obvious, I've had a few friends comment on it.

He also doesn't cough. I've been reading up & he has the markers for asthma so will be interesting to see what the paed's say.

Update: We've had chest x-rays & an ECG & because I haven't heard from the Dr's then it's all good.

BUT I have been thinking seriously along the lines of reflux after someone said about constant night waking.

I have found the Australian reflux support website which lists the below:
Their infant or child has chest issues any increased breathing effort, particularly after vomiting (NDDIC, 2006) or during or after eating repeated coughing wheezing repeated chest infections or pneumonia apnoeas (breathing stops temporarily) cyanosis (turns blue) or colour changes (pale or blue) around their mouth or face

So I think I'll follow up with my own Dr tomorrow & ask their opinion.

Meanwhile, sadly I am going to go cold turkey on coffee & chocolate

Also if your child is going blue you need to check to see if their tongue is going blue as well. That is more of an indication of heart problems.

Thought I'd share that info as I only learnt it from the paediatrician.
