Im preg with #3. i have 2 perfect healthy normal kids. this pregnancy I have been super worried about something being wrong with the baby. Ive been super scared about what I eat and what cleaners etc I use. I have still used cleaners etc but then been worried afterwards if the room was ventolated enough for example. it has become silly. Im 33.5 weeks and all scans etc have shown that baby is normal and healthy.

How do I not worry or stress about things so much?

Helen I am in a very similar boat to you, this is also my 3rd and I am so incredibly paranoid!!! I have found that talking to my midwife about EVERYTHING really helps, she is very good at putting my mind at ease. Maybe you could try talking to yours, or see if she can recommend someone for you to talk to? I find that when I am worrying about a particular thing, once I talk to her about it I feel alot better (until I move onto the next thing to worry about!). I think DH finds it helpful aswell, as he doesnt want me to worry, but doesnt really know how to put my mind at ease.

But at the end of the day, in a few weeks time you are going to be holding your brand new perfect little bundle, and all worries will fly out the window (along with your dignity hehehe)

Good luck, and take care. And feel free to PM me if you want to talk to someone not involved

Thanks heaps. I had been thinking "i have one of each and they are perfect - why risk having an abnormal baby when I have 2 great ones already' my hubby says 'we can have 3 perfect kids now' he is such an optimist! there is a lady at my sons school who is preg with her 3rd - she also has a boy and a girl - she has found out that #3 is downs syndrome and has a hole in his heart. Sometimes I try and think that if something was wrong it would've showed up by now. But then you never really know until you have it. The idea of having a perfect new baby is so exciting yet I can't seem to fully enjoy that as the fear of something being wrong still hangs around.

I'm only on my second so haven't run into 3rd time paranoia (heard about it alot though!!!) but wanted to send you a hug!
I think theres always a concern about having a healthy baby, I know its always in the back of my mind niggling away to the point I've gotten panicky sick over it (ridiculous coz I'm in my 20s with no scary family history) but having such a strong worry about it all the time must be horrible so hope the next few weeks fly by and perfect #3 arrives to put your mind at ease x

Thanks for the reply and hug. Im in my 20's too and no family history of anything either. So my fears have no real basis for being there. Just dumb hormones and emotions. I just need to keep thinking 'happy thoughts'. The idea of holding my new precious baby is sooo exciting and my other kids are excited too - so I need to hold on to those feelings and try and ignore the others. I hear Rescue Remedy spray works quite well. Every time I see a disabled person or downs syndrome child it sends me into a panic which is dumb. You never really know what will happen. A lady I know has just found out that her 5month old has epilepsy which is sad. Just seem to be surrounded by things that bring fear.

Stop reading - Too much information can make you paranoid too - Ignorance sometimes is bliss.

Well - this sounds like me 7 months ago!! Our 3rd was a wee surprise, so no folic acid and I had had a few wines before finding out - I stressed myself out totally about any little thing, and was paranoid that something would be wrong with the baby, and to be honest I forgot to relax and enjoy the pregnancy! Things have been rocky but not because of anything I had done, and Dani is a delightful wee bub. I think you will be relieved when bubby is out - but there will always be something to worry about!!!!

That's true but I guess just filter which information you take on board and concentrate on the things you can control rather that the things you can't.

Helen if the stress is getting too much and you can't shut it off, it may be worth considering talking to a Maternal Mental Health Counsellor.
Don't let the name fool you though, you don't have to have a "mental condition" to recieve their help. They are just so great as someone to talk to, give you skills to perhaps turn your brain off and help put your mind at ease.

Ask you MW about how to contact them if you are interested. I personally have found them invaluable.

They put me on Omega 3 Fish Oil capsules (perfectly safe and even advantageous for pregnancy) and within a week I found my mind to be more at rest, clearer and I was able to think straight about things that had just been a jumbled mess before. Things have only gotten better for me.
