Topic: Baby Asprin as a Conception Tool Posted: 01 November 2009 at 9:01pm |
My gyno has suggested that next time that I get preg (have had 3 mc's) that I will get a course of Heparin, supported by asprin.
I have recently read on the internet that a lot of women who are TTC take baby asprin (81mg) daily BEFORE they get rocking on the conception.
I am very very tempted to do this so I get a bit of a head-start. Has anyone used this asprin method, and has it worked for you after having multi-miscarriages?
I am about to undergo another IUI on Tues or Wed and wonder if I should get into the asprin from tomorrow.
Gyno said Heparin would be administered on my next preg test followed by the asprin treatment. But all stuff I have read points to people using it prior to conception and it doesn't have any harmful affects up to that stage - naturally there are some side affects once you are actually pregnant but they will be monitored by my gyno nonetheless and I am fully aware of them.

I have had 3 mc's and am still trying to conceive again. My specialist has recommended I take aspirin while trying (100mg) as my mc's have all been very early - ie I start spotting even before getting a bfp so it's kind of too late by then. From what I have heard, they won't cause you any harm taking them while ttc. Have they talked to you about taking progesterone?

My specialist has also put me on low dose aspirin while ttc'in after three consecutive mc's. Im taking 75mg and I will also be on progesterone once I have a bfp, and my understanding is also that they won't do you any harm.

Hi, I'm about to start my 4th TER with IVF and this time they are using the Colorado protocol due to two prior m/c's.
The Colorado protocol is basically taking "baby" asprin and a cocktail of a few other bits and pieces before conception takes place.
I start taking the asprin approx 1 week before my next AF is due.
I would def ask your specialist about starting before hand.
Good luck!

I have started aspirin today - thank you to everyone who has posted! The lady at the chemist was very very helpful, said that the prescriptions are either for the 75mg or the 100mg, and 80% are for the 100mg after recurrent miscarriage. I figure that if I start with that dose, after talking to my gyno tomorrow he can tell me to halve it or 3/4 it if necessary. I just wanted to get started today as I am due for another IUI on Wednesday.

My gyno said today that it can't hurt. He doesn't think there is enough documentation out there to support it as a definitely 'go' but in his opinion he says 'go for it'. Like you helen2289, I will do anything that will help! I wish you the best of luck

Hi Girls, good luck to those on the aspirin . My specialist has also put me on 75gms to start off with. I have another mid cycle ultrasound this cycle and monitored with trialling a low dose of phenlate, it seems my lining is too thin which is why I m/c. By body isn't following the right steps apprently. Am hoping all this helps to create a sticky bubba next time, will find out more over the next month.
ETA ignore the ticker my cycle is all over the place, last month 32 days, this month 28 days. I did start taking B6 this cycle but would have thought that would have made it longer???

I was also on baby aspirin because of recurrent m/c, and a high dose (5mg) of folic acid, and then progesterone pessaries once I got my BFP. The first BFP I got following these, was a (very!!) sticky one!! So hopefully you all have the same result

Elevit is 800mcg..not mg 5mg is available by prescription only - the standard dose is 300mcg, pg you're supposed to have 800mcg and then I was on 5mg.

Oh poop I got that a bit wrong didn't I!
I did some kind of test a few months back, must have been bloods - anyhoo I was fine with my folic but told to take the Elevit as it had all the right amounts so I could 'keep up the good work'.
So hang on, a bit blonde here (says the brunette!), are you on the same dose as Elevit if you do the conversion?

5 mg = 5000 mcg
Elevit contains 800 mcg so you are about 4200 mcg short of what Kate was taking.
(Although Im only assuming that was the conversion you were asking for clarification on).
