Hey girls,

I have been in quite a lot of pain since Thursday with Sciatica, at one stage I couldnt even walk or put pressure on my left leg . Have been to Physio twice and back again this Thursday but with a quick rub and the Tens machine it doesnt seem to be getting any better. I cant work at the moment and NEED to be working.

Anyone else going through this or has been and found a great treatment... like acupuncture?

Physio helped me and I was told I could have a belt if it got really bad, luckily I was fairly late into pregnancy so I just took annual leave and left work 2 weeks earlier than originally planned so didn't need it, but that is something you could ask your physio about.

I did get a belt today but still hard limping everywhere. Im 29 weeks so still a while to go!

For the last 10 days I have been suffering from the same problem and it has cost me my job   . I've been to see a deep tissue massage therapist, it has helped a little bit, it was not the most pleasent massage experience I've had but at least I can walk again. So it could be another option to look at failing everything else.

In the end I had a belt, and a crutch just to get around the house. Regular physio as I could get that for free, but what really did the trick was going to see a recommended Osteopath - they do much more thorough and specific adjustments, but can be a bit spendy. Acupuncture was also helpful, but in the end the only thing that fixed it was giving birth!

Ive got this too and only have my first physio appointment on the 12th so can't wait till then! man its aweful, Im frequently in pain because of it and 90% of the time its only down the one side and comes on so out of the blue

SWIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My physio kept twelling me to swim, the first time i went my abdomen stretched out and jake moved.... i got out of the water pain free. it was bliss

Yeah I had awful sciatica with Jake and its worse this time - I'm stuck on the couch (or the floor if I'm an idiot ) alot!! Swimming is awesome coz its warm and weightless! I find pregnancy pilates has helped a huge amount and also keeping my pelvis warm even resorting to tucking a hot water bottle down my pants . I tried an osteopath but it didn't work for me over this. Does usually though so worth a go.

Ohh I might try the swimming. I have had a swim since Ive been pregnant also not having a bath at home bubs hasnt floated with me and I hear that they love it!!

Osteopath is what I recommend, we have heaps of preggie ladies coming through the clinic where I work with the same probs.

I found physio no help, chiropractic works for me.

Also a little trick you can try for yourself - when you have sciatica pain, on the same side as the pain, feel down the palmside of your hand between the bottom of the thumb & your wrist, you will probably find a very sore point. With the thumb of your other hand press into the sore point, the tenderness should slowly diminish, it will likely relieve the sciatica pain & I find it works even better if I am walking at the same time.

i found it terrible from about 32 weeks. i could hardly move and i still had weeks left of uni and i walked up the hill from the train station. i went to the osteopath and was magically healed after a few days. lol. i would definitly do it again cos it definitly worked for me

i have this same problem, seems very common in pregnancy. i was thinking maybe physio might be worth a go but don't have much money. i know it was funded through ACC but heard the funding stopped. is this right or is it still free. or does it come under the free healthcare thing during pregnancy like the doctors does?

I said on my acc form that I hurt my back at work so its been covered as far as I know, but mine isnt pregnancy related so to speak its more work and wont ease up seeing im pregnant and theres that weight there.

Found some swimwear what a mission hobbling around town thou owch!

Just to let you ladies know that are suffering from this too I found swimming today so relaxing (apart from it being school holidays). I managed to exercise without it hurting.

I had my third physio appointment also and unfortunatily it hasnt done much good/not as good as the swimming. I am now wearing a pregnancy brace and again tonight in pain being over a week but I wont give up on the swimming.

Midwife thinks it could be way bubs is positioned also!!

I've been suffereing from sciatic for a while now and it's only getting worse. I still have a while to go and I'm scared it's only going to get worse. I'd love to try swimming but there's no heated pools suitable with in my immediate area, the closest heated pools are 35km away, I've had some deep tissue massage that has helped, but I can't  afford to go any more cause I lost me job at the beginning of the month .  I've been to see the GP who has prescribed me codine which in turn made me feel sick and did stuff all for the pain anyway, I'm also now on crutches but even tring to move around on them is fairly painful when it gets real bad. Is there any thing that can I can do to stop the pain.

Zasha are you even allowed Codine while pregnant?? Im pretty sure its only panadol.

Just an update for you, I got Acupuncture and after around 3 days its now gone pretty much. If im on my feet too long I get sore but I can now sleep and walk again I would recommend it, its well worth the money!
