 Topic: acupuncture while pregnant?

Im going for acupuncture tomorrow for sciatica and are wondering who else has had acupuncture before even not for pregnancy related.
Im scared of the needles a bit does it hurt?

I've had heaps of acupuncture before I was pregnant and whilst I was pregnant. It doesn't hurt at all. Lie back, relax and enjoy. If you are anything like me, you might get addicted to it

yea doesnt hurt at all. i had accupuncture from 36 weeks to help my body prepare for labour and it was totaly worth it. i used a wee bnit off accupressure for sciatica which worked really well so i imagine accupuncture would be really good too

I've had accupuncture heaps before with injuries (not with pregnancy yet, although my MW is going to chat to me about that next time). It doesn't hurt at all. Its actually really relaxing, so much so that my physio wouldn't let me drive home afterwards, I had to take someone with me

I had acupuncture for infertility and have my last session next Monday. The needles can be a bit zappy if you're sensitive and personally I don't particularly enjoy it but I definitely wouldn't call it painful.

I had acupuncture every week for the first 20 weeks of this pregnancy (initially for fertility, and then for an injury to my shoulder but they kept up the pregnancy needles as well).
Very relaxing! Although my acupuncturist didn't have a table suitable for pregnancy. I'm going back to see him before I'm due to talk about acupressure for pain relief (taking DP as well) and have asked him to be available around the time I'm due in case the baby is in the wrong position, or I need to be induced.
Make sure they know you are pregnant though, as some acupuncture points can cause miscarriage (and others can support the pregnancy).

It depends what it is for. A physio colleague of mine uses accupuncture for injuries and I have seen grown men cry! It all depends on your pain threshold and what the purpose is.

I had it to bring on a stalled labour... I didn't enjoy it but wouldn't call it painful - like someone else said, a bit zappy. Fascinating how it works.

I'm sh*t scared of needles when they're pointed at me and I had acupuncture last pregnancy. I was so tense I almost has a seizure (yup I hate needles) but it was fine. One hit a more sensitive spot and it gave me a stinging burning feeling but nothing like the prick of a needle taking blood or anything. I would def be comfortable going back again!

I have had it many times and I am scared of needles..... it is not the same as an actual needle.
My last pregnancy I had acupuncture to turn bubs as she was breech and it worked. I then had the preperation for labor and I think that worked really well too.... I will do it at the end of this pregnancy as well.
Hughly reccomend it!

I found it really relaxing. I had it towards the end of my pregnancy to help with positioning and getting ready for labour and also my back as I had slipped a disc earlier in the pregnancy and wanted my back to be as good as possible for the birth.
Are you in Auckland? Is it Carly in Green Bay you are seeing? If so rest assured as she is really lovely.

I've had it too and sometimes it barely hurt and other times I found it really painful, not sure why. But not like unbearable painful - or enough to stop me going back. I really liked it and found it worked really well. I'm starting it up again after labour weekend for preparation for the birth and going to ask her to try and treat my back too.

I'm seeing a woman in Auckland who specialises in womans issues. I'm TTC and find her fantastic. Doesn't hurt at all and I always leave very relaxed! I look forward to going every week
