Are you doing a pirate ship cake?
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Lizzy all I can think of are small-type crunchy bars - because of the gold inside.

One thing to remember though is to have a good amount of savoury food as well so the kids don't get tummy ache. Chippies/tweezles, cheerios with tomato sauce, etc.

Have fun! Let us know how you get on, I have a 3yr old party coming up at the end of the year.

what about a walk the plank game. some how set it up so they have to balance a little bit off the ground and whoever lasts teh longest balancing wins. Or colour and decorate thier own pirate hats/swords and or eye patches. you could just get the basics ready for them.
Food wise you could put little flags in savouries or shape sandwhiches to look like boats with little flags.

hhhhm pirate party - ok here goes..

cake - easy as..a treasure chest,
get 2 sqaure/rectangle cakes, make one curved over in shape (ie like the top of the chest) by cutting it (if you stick it in the freezer for an hour before doing this it will mean it's easier and less crumbs) the bottom part, cut out the middle part.. up to you how far down you go, maybe an inch or so is usually good, and leave about an inch around all the sides (so it looks like you have cut a square out of the middle) cover both cakes in chocy icing, get those gold choclate coins and maybe some candy necklaces etc and put them inside the chest and drape them out around the front side of the chest too to look like it's spilling.. if you put more in the front and leave the back empty-ish then it means you can then put the lid on, to make it look like the chest is half open. Get licorice strapps, the ones that are flat and thick and have the lines in them, cut them to make some straps to go at the back to look like hinges.. if you want you can stick yellow pebbles or m&m's around the edges of the chest to look like golden bolts or whatever they have on them, then just stick some either breadcrumbs all around to make it look like it's in sand, or could scatter some more of the gold choc coins around too.

I have about 6 kids party books with themed partys in them, pirate patries are in them with heaps of food and game ideas.. so if you want Pm me and i will send some more.. just can't go get them at the mo cos they are in PAris's book shelf.

Make a treasure chest out of a cardboard box - fill it with "sand" (sawdust or something will do) and put little lucky dip prizes in it.

if you have a sandpit - how about a "treasure dig" - like a beach dig. hide tags in the sand and they can exchange them for mini-prizes. I was going to do the same for Jake - Bob the builder - consturction dig, but we're having Blues Clues instead.

Hi,

I have a party book which has been a god send and it has ideas on invites, cake, party food and party games, plus it has a template for the cake if you want to PM me with your address I would be happy to photo copy the pages for you and post them. It's from a new Zealand book so it's nice easy food etc. Just let me know.

What about a treasure hunt with treasure maps? You could make a map on your computer (or hand-draw it if you're creative) and print it off on parchment-type paper (scrapbooking paper from Spotlight?), then roll it up and put it in an empty bottle with a cork. Divide the kids into teams and hand them each a bottle with a treasure map and let them go for it.

Decorating - what about making a pirate banner? Cut up black triangles of construction paper and staple them to a long string, then hang it around the yard or the house. A skull-and-crossbones flag would be easy to make -- use an old sheet or pillowcase and simply draw it on with black markers.

You could have Pirates of the Caribbean or another kid-type pirate movie (isn't there a Muppet pirate movie? I can't remember) playing on the TV in the background.

For drinks -- ocean water (blue juice) and sharks' blood (red juice).

I admit that I stole some of these ideas from this website: http://www.birthdaypartyideas.com/html/pirate_party.html  It has some really cool pirate party ideas! We'd love to see photos after the party is over, and hear how it went!

:) Katherine
