Hi everyone. I know that this question has been asked many a times I am sure but thought that i just need to write it down and maybe i might feel better
Sam is nearly 6months old and has been a little toad when it comes to sleeping. it doesnt help that she (and me) has had a cold since thursday last week. We are good at sleeping during the day but night well that is a different story. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if anyone has any ideas on how i can get my sanity back.
This is our routine at the moment even when we are sick

wake 7 or 730am Breast feed
solids 8ish
sleep 830am-9am
wake 1030am - 11am
Breastfeed 11am
sleep 1pm
wake 3pm
Breastfeed 3pm
quick nap 4pm
wake 5pm
breastfeed 530pm
solids 6pm
bath or massage
breastfeed or bottle 630pm - 7pm
BED 7pm or730pm

we then wake up screaming at 8-830pm
1030pm breastfeed
1130pm
1230am
130am
230am breastfeed
5am breastfeed (at wits end)
wake 7 - 730am

HELP... what is up with that...? I am just sooo tired i can even think. Any words of wisdom. Its like she doesnt know how to go back to sleep.

How long has it been going on for? It could possibly be just a growth spurt. Also, if she has a cold it may pay to elevate the head end of the cot so she can breathe easier.

It may also be time to introduce a third solids meal?

Hi, maybe try cutting out the middle of the day sleep? I used to do a morning (9.30 - 11.30am) and then a afternoon sleep (3.30-5.30) if she would sleep that long. In the middle of the day I used to go out and she would go to sleep in her pram sometimes - not often though. Is Sam sleeping in own room? I had bubs into our room until about 9 months - bad mistake she started sleeping a lot better in her own room!!!! Also I would also suggest solids at lunch time - again I do a bottle at when she gets up from her morning sleep and then between half to an hour later solids. The only other thought I had was teething? Are you trying anything on the gums? Karvol capsules are great to help with colds as well, I never place in the cot - I cut and sqeeze out the oil onto a tissue and place on the floor as it is quite strong, you can get these at the supa or the chemist. We are struggling with colds too bubs comes home from DC with it I get it, give it back so we start the cycle again and again argh. Hope all improves soon for you!

She may need her meds upped hun! Sounds like it might be the reflux playing up. Also if she is stuffed up she maybe struggling a bit with the milk coming up and her nose being blocked so she cant breathe...

Jake is just not sleeping! He is waking constantly through the night and getting about 1-2 hours per day in broken sleep.

Thinking it maybe his reflux now, perhap potato's really do upset reflux babies!

It sounds like Sam is a great sleeper in the day so I'd wonder whether something is bothering her at night - if she's waking hourlythat sounds like every sleep cycle. We had a similar thing happen when my daughter had sore ears, she would wake up really really frequently at night and often screaming. Has it just been happening since she has her cold?

Your day routine sounds lovely by the way, very jealous!

Does she know how to go to sleep by herself? Do you put her down awake or do you feed/rock her to sleep?

Have you tried wrapping her (I know she might be a bit old now but it might be worth a shot) in case she's waking herself up with arm movements...?

Thanks heaps for all your suggestions!
I would love to tell you that Sam is STILL wrapped as has major startle reflux still and sleeps better
Used the Karvol and attached to her mobile above her bed which is elevated
Well I thought that I would feed her by breast then top up with formula after every feed and she slept thru till 1am last night and also gave her solids at lunch!!! wahoo...
Will see how we get on tonight and my fingers are crossed.
ang84 - Sam is put to bed awake and left to it but sometimes i need to help her with the dummy to get to sleep especially those evenings sleeps!
Hannibal - if it doesnt work tonight I will definetly try cutting out that lunch time sleep. She is nosey so if we went out for a walk she would stay awake for a good amount of time.

I have just been (am still going ) through the same thing. Infact your timetable was EXACTLY ours! It does get better. We have had cold after cold after earache etc so things have gone from bad to worse. I think we are finally coming out the other side.

As a result of desperation I have been reading everything on sleep and one said that they often start doing this around 5 months as their sleep changes and if they really hadnt sorted the self settling it can all come apart at this stage.

Sorry no help...but if you hang in and dont go to crazy...I am hoping it comes right. FINGERS CROSSED!
