Arnica spray comes recommended by my MW and OB for afterwards.
There's meant to be a safe essential oil that helps establish labour if you take a bath with it in early stages - I can't remember what it is but some other girls here are sure to know.

I see you have 5W which is a good start There is also "Pre-Birth spray" which is a homeopathy remedy for the last 2 weeks, also there is a labour one which I can't remedy what it is called but is the same brand.
I used the 5W, the pre-boirth spray, extra raspberry leaf tablets & for labour I used rescue remedy once just to calm me down. Had a wonderful home waterbirth

I took them about 3 weeks before my due date from memory. There is already raspberry leaf in 5W so I didn't want to go overboard too soon. I had my daughter on her due date so I was very pleased about that AND labour was only 4.5hrs from first pain to her being born

4.5 hour labour sounds great to me! But apparently your first is always the longest, im only 19 so my midwife said its the perfect time to have a baby because my bones etc can move and adjust more easily but i want to be extra prepared! So i might start taking extra raspberry leaf pills from 27 weeks. I know my MW will just shake her head at me, always going overboard!

I had no pain relief births both times, the first cos after 24 hours she decided to hurry when I wanted to get an epidural , the second, because 7 years is long enough to forget . Never again .
Anyway , with my second , I found the best thing, was probably actually the bath , and , as corny as it may sound , visualising the baby once he was out, not the pain I was going to go through.
Of course you get to a stage where nothing will help ease the pain but actually giving birth , but it certainly helped up until I was about 7-8 cms , which is pretty good

Ok I have a full set of NaturoPharm stuff.
I have Pre-Birth which you start taking 3 weeks before you're due to help promote natural childbirth and muscle tone. Has Arnica in it.
Birth-Aid which you take during labour to support natural childbirth and recovery. Also has Arnica in it and was highly recommended to me by a few chemists (female) who said they had used it during their labours and needed nothing else.
And lastly Milk-Flow which does just what the name says and helps promote natural breastmilk flow. This is for after birth when bub is already here.
I think I might go get some Rescue Remedy as well for the time leading up to the full on labour to help keep myself as calm as possible.

Oh and I'm with caitlynsmygirl on the visualisation things as well. But then me and my partner are really into that stuff so he will be there coaching me through that as well. I like the idea of taking a scan pic with you too.
It helps to focus the mind on the task at hand and the desirable outcome rather than going "OMG OMG this hurts" and getting yourself all wound up and tense.

I used prebirth spray but nothing during labour. I found just concentrating on sucking on gas properly was a bit of a distraction.

A picture of a scan would be good actually! Im really into that sort of meditation stuff, so will be just going with the pain - not fighting it and doing alot of visualizing. I also do this thing where i concentrate of my body and baby and i get inside my body and can see my baby. But i will also be in a pool, so that will help!
Mmmm i think you can get a pack off all 3 birth aid things?? i might look into getting that

Yeah. It might be hard to find though as the chemist I went into were taking Natropharm products off the shelf as they hadn't been selling enough. But then that was just my chemist in Tokroa.

Oh Oh, another thing we are doing is throughout this pregnancy we have played baby this American Indian music that DP and I really like. And we intend to have it playing during the birth as it is quite calming but also because it's familiar to baby we are hoping it will help keep him calm and make things a bit easier. Also we're hoping that if we play this music to bub once he is born it'll help him sleep.
Not saying you''ve got to play your baby Ameican Indian music, but perhaps a particular CD or type of music that you find quite soothing, play it daily to baby until your due date it should become familiar enough to them that they become quite relaxed about everything.

Well I didnt have time to use natural rememdies or drugs with having a short labour (just over 3.5 hours), but what helped me was reminding myself and having DH remind me that I only had to get through 'this' contraction and it was one less contraction I had to do again.
I definitely second the rescue remedy. Once my waters broke I got quite anxious but as soon as I took the rescue rememdy I calmed down a lot. It probably also help that I finished packing my bags, made our bed and mucked around before going to the hospital as well to stay destracted.
Just something to keep in mind though, dont take or try something new when your in labour that you havent already tried and liked before labour. Chances are you will probably hate it during labour if your not used to it and may prolong the labour process.

And also bear in mind that labour is nothing like you've ever experienced and you might find that none of the techniques work for you , thats ok too , its more than ok to go with the flow .
Just try and remember (and when your actually IN labour, it can be hard ) that its just one day of your life ....the fun stuff actually starts when you get home ;-P
(my birth plan next time is easy , go to hospital at first sign of contraction , order my epidural , and watch Friends episodes on my laptop ......

I found heat packs quite good to start with, when the contractions were really sore but I was still at home. I ended up being transfered to the main hospital(middlemore) as my labour wasnt progressing well, but when I got there I used the gas, and i found that REALLY helped me keep my breathing steady which helped me stay in control etc. Things went to custard though and I had an epidural and then eventually an emerg c section, so I cant help with the pushing stage and all that as I never got to go through that.

Hi
I used 5W, was induced at 38 weeks and had a 3 hour labour with just gel being used to induce me - and it was my first I also had acupuncture 5 days before my induction and was taking evening primrose oil. Also I was doing heaps of walking in the last 2 weeks prior to my induction.

I had a fairly short first labour - roughly 8 hours from very first niggle to Ollie being born.
The things I found most helpful were accupressure points (http://www.cityacupuncture.co.nz/?page_id=6) - this is a really informative downloadable booklet), a warm flannel on my perineum towards the end (that was absolute bliss!) and just concentrating through each contraction

I had lots of stress in my labour and nothing went to plan but I just focused on staying as relaxed and disconnected to the outside world as possible. I slept alot too. I had lots of people in and out and rushing around with moniters but I figured that was their job to worry bout that so I completely detached myself, went inside my head and talked to baby. I think thats the reason he was so calm when he was born - as soon as he heard my voice he went still and quiet and snuggled into me. They actually got abit worried about how calm he was because he'd been under such stress in the womb
