    Posted: 04 September 2009 at 11:09am
I am 28 weeks preg and got sinus and a very runny nose. I went to the chemist who said all I can take it a vicks nose sniff inhaller and put ecyluptus on a hankie and sniff. This is not clearing or doing anything.
I am off to the other side of the world tomorrow so have the whole day on a plane and really wanting to get this sorted.
Is there anything I can do??

I got some otravin saline solution but that helps more when it's blocked than runny. And it has to bhe the saline version the normal otravin is no good for pregnancy.

There's nothing else I know of unfortunately. Take a lot of hard boiled sweets to suck on and hopefully that will help with the pressure of take off and landing.

Ask your pharmacist, there is a nasal spray you CAN use while pregnant that has a low level of steroid in it that is safe (can't remember name). I used it in the final weeks of my pregnancy and wished I'd used it sooner, it was fantastic stuff!

The chemist told me to use my nasal spray from the beginning so I've just been using the one I get from the Dr's.

I've also been naughty and taken some tablets when it's really bad and I can't sleep, but when I asked about them at the chemist she told me that there was nothing to prove they did anything bad but it was just one of those things where you have to decide for yourself.

I haven't been worried about it though, should I be?

I've had sinus problems throughout this pregnancy so asked my OB about it. I now have beconase on hand for when it gets back (I tried the vicks and saline stuff but none of it worked for me) The nasal spray does contain low level of steriods but given I have been on mega super dose of steriods for a chest infection I think its the least of my concerns. Talk to your LMC/GP about what would be the best option for you.

I get really bad hayfever and my GP prescribed Polaramine. HAvent used it yet and dont think I will until it gets really bad, which will probably be as it gets warmer. Visit your GP if you have time before you go away.

thanks for the replies, unfortunately I fly out early in the morning so no time to visit GP. I have tried vicks all day and doing nothing. Might try and pop down to a chemist first thing and see if there is anything I can take, as it's driving me nuts. Blocked up, runny, itchy - yuk!

OMG I wish I'd known about this - would probably have saved me a sinus infection. I'll hassle the MW/OB if I get ill again.
