Luke appears to have Salmonella - he has had diarrhoea for 9 days now, and now has a cold on top of that!! Doctor is running further tests to confirm, but is fairly sure. There is no medicine to help...

Just wondering if anyone else has had experience with this in their toddler? I need ideas of what I can feed him (supposed to be avoiding dairy and fruit - his favourites!)

Also, any ideas of how long it might last and when we can return to doing our activites etc

Oh no, the poor thing!! I've had it twice and both times felt like death. Last thing I felt like doing was eating. Toast is probably the best and regular sips of water. I felt better after about 3 or 4 days. I got given some great tablets to settle my tummy cramps, but I'm not sure what you can give to toddlers.

ive just had a really bad dose of gastroenteritis and after being on IV fluids i was given enerlyte sachets to put with water to try get my fluids back up. i was looking on the back and you can give it to toddlers so that might help. things will get better way quicker once he is hydrated properly

yep, toast is the best thing I have found. With bananas make sure they are not too ripe as they have the opposite effect .

You can get pedalite on prescription from the Dr to help re-hydrate but to be honest, it is foul. Neither of my two would drink it and after trying it myself I am not surprised.

I have tried the pedialyte and he wouldn't have a bar of it. Interestingly, I tried him on hydralyte iceblocks today and they were a hit! Tasted the same to me, but the novelty factor worked on him...

He doesn't mind eating, in fact sometimes is hungry, but wants all the things that I have been told not to give him... bananas are the favourite at the moment, so glad he can have those!

Just so hard having him sick for so long, he has lost around 2kg over the last 12 days... I am taking him back to docs tomorrow for checkup.
