I'm just being curious really.
We all get those well child books for our kids that Plunket etc fill out. Do you fill out yours before apptms? Have you decorated it in any way? Is it a treasured possesion?

I'll start - since I asked

I'm not too worried about ours. I used to fill Gina's before Emma was born but haven't really bothered since for either baby. I don't think those books are that special IYKWIM - I've seen my hubby's one and I didn't find it that interesting/meaningful.
On the other hand, a friend of mine thinks it's quite an important thing so I'm just curious what other's opinions are.

So far I haven't even had time to look at what the MW etc have written in it. I will do my best to keep it for when bub is older but I think I will get other and make other things that will be meaningful treasures for her.

I coversealed them both to keep them nice, but haven't written inthem or put pictures in them. I keep them in the bookcase, so I always know where they are. I read them often and do keep thier height and weight fairly up to date, especially since after 3 they don't go to plunket now.

I made a cover for bailey's and even embroidered his name into the front of it
I did write a couple of things in there before his appointments but now I dont bother, the plunket dont take much notice of it anyway :/

Aidans - well Im still to cover his one :/ I havent really had a chance - or have the space to write in his, with him being prem he is alreally in the 4-5 year section and hes not even 3 yet lol

I just tick the boxes - after our first plunket visit and I'd been "told off" for not doing it! I also fill in the hight/weight charts, but that's about it. I also lose it after every appointment, and have to hunt high and low before the next one!

I'll hang on to it for her, when I was a child I used to love looking at it. It was also cool when Lydia was born, my mum brought mine up, and it's been fun to compare.

The front cover of Spencer's is torn, so I suppose that says it all really I have two other first years book for them with foot prints and special dates in etc, they are kept in a shoe box in the cupboard where they don't get destroyed/lost.

I always forget to even look at mine before the appointments but my plunket nurse doesn't seem to mind.

My MW put a lovely padded cover(paddington bear one-you buy them off TM from a lady who makes them especially for plunket books) over Cadens when she first took it home to wrote in it when he was a few days old.
I dont really write it mine except to mark off his new teeth etc, but I always read what has been written, and my MW and plunket put stickers in it for me at each visit etc.

Mine stays in my handbag all the time, alonmg with my pregnancy diary my MW fills out for this baby.

I find Cadens plunket book speacial cos it tells me how well he is doing and also, cos we had such a rocky start with his weight and feeding, it shows me that I am doing a good job and he is now thriving

I keep it and do the bare minimums - track height and weight since our Plunket nurse doesn't seem to be able to do that but most of my memories/key developmental steps are recorded on here. One day I'll have to spend a weekend cutting and pasting the key posts!

Mine is filled out and filled with photos. Just something I thought I would do while they are still young (as I'm sure I wouldn't bother later). Also, I would love to have something like that to look back on for me my mum can't even find my plunket book :S

I do the weight, height and teeth and also write up the stuff before each big plunket checkup. I try to record milestones if I remember but it's really a big old mess.

I certainly don't put photos etc. in it. I haven't even managed to get the normal photos into an album

I did nothing with Leahs, just let plunket/mw fill that in. With Joel i have been writing in when he did things cos I find it hard to remmber when plunket asks so if i write it in when he does it its all there. Last visit she thought it was great that I had it all there ready for her.

eta: it was easier to remember with Leah as she was all I had to think about, now being that much busier its easier ti write things down. Also I keeo them on top of the stereo where the kids can't get them.

we are with Te Pua but they still use same book..we don't do anything ..doc or nurse from TPW ticks it and that's it. I guess all the interesting stuff is covered by the PAFT lady as she covers what he does monthly 4months-3 year..

lol I've not ever been told to tick the boxes or do anything even when we did go to punket:) though i did like it when he was tiny so I could see his progress..

My mum has her book and mine, so i am trying to keep Brennans nice and filled in to add to our wee collection. I have put photos in it and its got a fabric cover on it.

But i always lose it before our plunket visits and have a mad panic to try and remember where i put it after our last visit.

Both my boys have stickers in theirs and I have written a few things in (like first tooth and rolling over, crawling etc), but that is it.

They are with the family important doc's so I know where they are.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I filled Maya's in all the time - the tooth chart has each tooth marked off down to the day that she got it (6m2d, 7m3d etc lol) and it has all her milestones, early doctor/hospital visits etc in it. I was gutted when I lent it to my sister to use as a bilingual resource for her ECE course and I got it back with the cover off, apparently her drink bottle leaked in her bag but I was so angry that she didn't take better care of it.

I didn't bother so much with the others coz I haven't had time, but I keep them all on the bookshelf and all the relevant medical notes, letters from specialists etc. inside each.

In terms of permanent memories, lil miss and Maya have baby books and the gremlins have a scrapbooked first year album each that I spent hours and hours on, but I will keep all their Well Child books as I found reading mine from when I was a baby fascinating when I first had Maya and am really glad mum kept it.

I have filled out Daniels one. I have added lots of comments on when he starts doing things and also filled in the hieght weight chart. DH and I both have our and we thought it was funny going back and reading them so I want Daniel to be able to do the smae if he wishes. I think we forget quickly how little they were and I like to go back and read it sometimes too.

I keep track of everything, I loved reading through my plunket book, I want Arianne to do the same.

I should get one of those covers that Sheza was talking about.
