Topic: Tingly Feet and Hands Posted: 16 August 2009 at 5:02pm |
Hey all, just wondering if anyone else has had this during pregnancy... I'm getting it every couple of days where my hands or feet will just go all numb and tingly just like pins and needles but I wont have been sitting on them or anything like you would normally do to get pins and needles.... Hope that makes sense....

Sounds like carpal tunnel to me.... it can get pretty bad! I had it really bad with Jack that I ended up having sleeping pills to sleep through the pain.
Get referred for splints at the hospital, they loan them to you for free. I've found they've worked well this time (wasn't even offered them last time!) and so far haven't had to go and get the peas every morning at 3am to numb my hands to go back to sleep lol

I had it so bad while pregnant with Taylah, drove me mad lol.
Especially at night, it did sometimes prevent me from sleeping

I quite often get tingly fingers but I was pretty sure it was related to my blood pressure meds lowering my bp too much. Mine aren't sore though, just a strange tingle.

I'd get it checked because of the feet thing. It likely is carpel tunnel though.
I get it in my hands something chronic and drives me CRAZY! It doesn't hurt, just this hideous numbness and tingling. Worse in my right hand and I've had to use my left hand to prise the fingers open in the mornings at time.

A friend of mine who is due next week just got this, and her MW has ordered some extra blood tests, as it can be a sign of decreasing liver function, esp in late pregnancy.
I know you aren't that far through, but I would check with your MW just to be on the safe side.
My MW doesn't mind what questions I ask her!

Thanks everyone for your answers, It seems to be more in my hands than feet over the last couple of days and probably only had it a few times each day. I will definitely have a chat to my midwife at some stage and see what she thinks, Shes away for the whole month of August so will just wait till she gets back unless it gets worse! And yep Trish will let ya know what she says Thanks so much ladies!!

Yep, my sister in law had this and it could be sign of the liver functioning. Something to do with the bile leaking into bloodstream or something.....

Hope this helps :)

hi there,
I have the bile liver thing that everyone is talking about. It's could Intro Uterine Colestasis of Pregnancy or I.U.C.P. Generally when you get it though you get swelling and really ichy starting from your hands and feet and then the rest of your body. They usually don't let you go past 38 weeks ethier (i was induced due to it). I personally don't think it sounds like that or carpal tunnel because you don't get carpal tunnel in your feet. I would be more inclined to say that you should get your midwife to check your blood presure and do some blood and urine tests just to check its not pre-eclampsia. I think this due to you not being that far through and one of the first signs is tingling and pins and needle type sensasions in the hands and feet. usually followed by other things as it goes on. You can find heaps about it on the net.
