I'm struggling with this already! For lunch I usually have sushi, eggs benedict or leftovers – all of which I've been told aren't ideal. I also have the added problem of having to keep my diet gluten free and low in sugar (I have coeliac disease and PCOS) Urgg!

Morning sickness hasn't kicked in yet, however chatting to friends I'm told that crackers, baked beans on toast and 2 minute noodles are good for MS but... they all have wheat in in them!

Is there anyone out there who has had to follow a gluten free diet whilst being pregnant?

Hi Treen - sorry I'm not much help for gluten free suggestions but wanted to say 'hi' you and I are both exactly 4 weeks and 4 days pregnant - funny!

Hi Pants! Maybe we'll run into each other at an antenatal class in the not so distant future. You should come over and join us in the Due in April thread.

Hi Treen - I'm coeliac as well!
I found the whole 'omg what will I be able to eat' thing a bit overwhelming at first.
I'm big on leftovers - as long as they are only from the night before and I nuke the hell out them.
Otherwise I toast up some gf bread in the morning and make a sammy for lunch. (if you nuke the bread for 10s before making the sammy it fixes the stale toast aspect)
I usually carry a GF cup a soup in my handbag in case I get caught out. My desk has a stash of rice noodles (which with one of those little steam packs of frozen veg and some GF stock powder make for a decent lunch)
Rice crackers are a good substiute for crackers - nice salty ones when the MS is bad. Beans on toast is still an option - just has to be a GF one.
Give me a yell if you need a hand with anything - its hard enough figuring out what you can eat with the preggy deit let alone having to make it GF.

Me too !!!
It sucks bit when your restricted diet gets even more restricted !!!

Ha you checked out www.mfd.co.nz they have a heap of "normal " food that is gluten free, including Oak baked beans. Oh and Weight watchers ones which I "think" are lower in sugar too.

I used to take salad with tuna for lunch or baked potato with baked beans and cheese.

Those gf cups of soup are good too,

I used to take leftovers too same as littlestar just nuked em till they were HOT and they were fine .

Same a s littlestar any questions ,ask its nice to know there are a few of us out there

Oh thanks so much for that Littlestar! WIth the sammies, I read that you can't use cold meat. Is this true or is it okay? And where do you buy GF beans and cup of soup from? I couldn't find any GF baked beans at the supermarket the other day and I didn't check the soups but I assumed they'd all been thickened with wheat so I didn't even bother checking.

Wicked Misscheeky, I've never seen that website before. And thanks for the heads up on Oak Baked Beans and WW – that must have been the only brands I didn't look at.

And same again, are you just taking about normal cup of soups or do you get special GF ones from somewhere?

Great to see there's a few of us out there!

Cold meats are a huge no-no I'm afraid. I miss cold meat sandwiches!

Just watch the salt levels in the Maggi soups - the Basco ones are better in that department.
As for ham - I buy the teeny beehive pre packs of ham - open it at work, nuke it till piping and then make a sammy - the food safety book says thats enough so I'm comfortable with it, but this just my personal choice, you need to work out whats comfy for you.
But you will love the MFD site - it makes shopping a whole lot easier.
For bread - I'm partial to either the marxx bagels (lovely but not sold anywhere handy for me) or the verdini five seed loaf (which I think my foodtown has just stopped stocking - so its back to paknsave)

Don't worry this panic phase only lasts a few weeks!

Have you had a look at the manufactured food website? It has great lists of manufactured foods that could be great as snacks for you when pregnant. My little girl is lactose and soy intolerant so I use it all the time to find brands that make foods without those ingrediants in.
