Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has had one of these?

Have just come back from a dating scan, where they couldn't find a sack :( Doesn't look like an eptopic but def have thick lining etc, radiographer has suggested it could likely be a molar pregnancy.

Still got our fingers crossed it could be to early, but unlikely at this stage I think.

Thanks. Seems like a much nicer bunch of women here than another un-named nz site!

Have had a good read of some material my MW gave me, and feeling better about the whole thing now.

Having had one straight forward pregnancy, was a real shock to the system! Some many emotions!

I'm so sorry. But fx'd that they just had trouble finding things.
But FYI - this was my first pregnancy. Everything seemed fine until my 12 week scan when to found out that I had had a "missed" miscarriage. I had had no cramping or bleeding at all so it was a complete shock. I waited a few weeks to properly miscarry - it didn't happen so I had to have a D&C at 16 weeks. They did testing and it came back as a molar pregnancy. I think the only way they can be sure is by doing genetic testing on the embryoic tissue as it will have too many sets of DNA. The extra kick in the guts is that they recommend at least 6 months wait before trying again because apparently this tissue with the extra DNA can turn malignant and if any tissue remains inside you it can turn into a very aggressive form of cancer. So they monitor your HCG levels until normal and stay normal for a little while before advising you to fall pregnant again. I ignored their advice and feel pregnant again (another failure for different reasons) but the Gynae Oncologist was very upset and told me that I obviously didn't understand how dangerous it can be.
I don't want to worry you but I was really upset just from the miscarriage but then completely devastated when they sprung that on me.

Yeah, I'm holding out a glimmer of hope but not likely I don't think.

I have been really symtopmatic with this pregnancy, much more than when I was pregnant with my 1st. Which would make sence, with the really high HCG readings you get with a molar pregnancy.

Now I'm getting txts from the few people I did tell, asking how the scan went, might just pop them in the too hard basket at least for this evening.

We were hoping for a 2 year age gap, and it would have been 23months! So yes the waiting is going to be hard for us. Esp as our friends are all pregnant now with there number 2's!

Oh honey, hang in there! Once of best friends had a molar first pregnancy so understand it's not an easy thing to deal with - especially all the waiting around and the additional tests. She went on to have a healthy wee girl - got pregnant 3 months after the molar, against medical advice but it all worked out in the end. Big hugs xxx

i know someone who got pregnant after molar too and everything was fine.. even though it was a little early...

they thought i may have had it as it is much more common after a mc and had to have a lot of monitoring and my results from DandC suggested possible partial molar which turned out not to be....anyway I goggled it (bad idea) then talked to my doc and got other info and even in worst case scenario(with the cancer thing )it's almost 100% curable..scary but that's something....

normally on the scan they see a cluster of like grape like cells? so what are they doing for you?

*hugs* this kinda news is awful to hear:(!!

Update on the situation, it looks like it may not be a molar pregnancy after all but they are monitoring my HCG levels for now as they a bit higher than they expected but not high enough to be considered a molar pregnancy. Prob a 'normal' miscarriage, which although horrible, is a better option to eptopic or molar. Will also have another scan next week if nothings happened naturally.

Has been a real rollercoaster! I really felt like I had come to terms with the fact it wasn't meant to be, and was pleased to have found out at the scan with my DH by my side rather than bleeding one day! But then woke up this morning and of course am still feeling very pregnant! Was a bit of a kick in the guts.

There are so many things that can go wrong, I am kind of grateful our wee embryo went when it did if it wasn't meant to be with us, rather than 12weeks time.

I hope what I have written makes some sort of sense!

Thanks very much for your support.

awww coopersmum hugs to you, I had the exact same thing, first the doctors told me I had molar preg first time, then it turned out to be a missed m/c and its such a shock to the system, so hard having to tell those who knew you were pregnant. I had d&c about a week after but still felt pregnant also, still had nausea.. was such an awful awful time.

I found it a big weight off my shoulders when I was told it was a m/c rather than molar preg as i couldn't face being tested every 2 weeks etc.

I struggled to deal with and kept quiet about it until I stumbled across a forum (before i found this one) and finially shared my pain which helped me go through with trying again.

Hope you find talking about a big help and take care

And the rollercoaster continues...!

Went and had another lot of bloods done yest morning, my MW rang last night with results, saying ' So I hear your still feeling abit 'out of sorts' it could because your pregnant?!'

So as you can imagine my MW was as stunned as I was!

HCG went from 800 on Friday avo to 3700 mon morning.

Still in shock and can't understand whats going on!? So either a viable pregnancy was missed at the scan or it was super early, which I find hard to believe.

Have another scan on Thursday as well as another round of bloods, so not getting my hopes up just yet will see what happens..

What a crazy ride, MW said we have a few people scratching their heads.

OMG Coopersmum! Ohh i so hope it is all good news. Your post on 14th had me in tears - all so unfair. Wouldn't it be great if it was just too early at the scan. Fingers crossed for you.

Oh what a horrible time, being in limbo is so emotionally draining.

Hope you get the news that they just missed the embryo because it was too early and you go on to have a H & H rest of pregnancy.

So do I! Apparently would expect HCG to up in the 100's of thousands by now if it was a molar.

Our accountant is coming tonight, so will have a really exciting evening crunching numbers rather than thinking about it all!

Scan is booked for 8.40, so will soon know either way!

I see your bub is now past the 12week post Sasha!
