I LOVE the idea of MCNs. Has anyone tried the Aussie Brands - Rumparooz Pockets, Baby Kanga pockets or Gro Baby snap ins (all OSFA)? Gro Baby is the only one sold in NZ (on MothersInstinct site).

I have been to a HoneyChild demo and I like pocket nappies but maybe snap ins are better for me??? I have hired a MCN kit for 2 months for when our girl is due so I will have plenty of time to try out all the different types of naps.

Originally I wanted only NZ made brands but if I have to go Aussie then I will. I have family that can bring my order over at christmas once we have decided.

Has anyone had a really bad time with
- OSFA?
- Pockets or snap ins?
- Velcro/Aplix vs snaps?

Cheers all :)

I absolutely love my OSFA pockets :) I prefer them to the snap ins just because I have so much more freedom to play around with absorbancy, but I see the advantage in them too!

Personally, I prefer sized (not OSFA) because I think you get a neater fit on a smaller baby and they're less bulky, and I prefer snaps to velcro because I hate when velcro sticks to things in the wash & causes pilling, plus babies can undo velcro easier than snaps

I had some small Honeychild pocket nappies that were just gorgeous on my newborn - he wore them til about 6-8wks old (he was 4.1kg/9lb at birth). They're a really well-made nappy and stay looking nice, plus they dry quickly (I also used larges on my toddler). But now that my little man is into medium nappies I'm using a mix of Itti Bitti D'lish AIOs (also Aussie-made) as they are really trim, absorbent & require no stuffing or snapping (all the absorbency is attached!) and Muttaqin fitted nappies (from the USA) with wool overtop (lanolised as a waterproof layer).

Basically I use honeychilds - love the pocket system and sizing system. We paid off a set of 24 during my pregnancy BUT knowing what I know now I wouldn't have... would just save my pennies and do what you're doing and hire a kit then decide what works for bubs and us..

In saying that, honeychilds are great - for all the same reasons as Vic, and love Ittis for all the same reasons as well

Hate the thought of velcro - her velcro bibs are enough to drive me up the wall when they stick to everything when washing!

Anyway, would also suggest you pop over to the nappy network site www.thenappynetwork.org.nz there are heaps of helpful ladies with lots of great advice

Hey hun,

Now assuming you are who I think you are (if this doesnt make sense then whoops - wrong person).

As an FYI, Jake was in itti's at the demo and you saw the small HC still fitted him at 3 months (and still does on the same snaps at nearly 4 months).

I love my Fuzzi's (similiar to HC but a different fit) as I can manage the absorbency. Also, I have more inserts than pockets as they take longer to dry.. it means I am not waiting on nappies.

I also love my itti's. I have both the all in one and the snap in one. I find the AIO are a snugger fit on Jakes small frame, but now he is getting a bit bigger I am finding the SIO is starting to fit him a bit better.

I think its a great idea to use the hire kit to get an idea of what works best for YOUR baby.

Oh, if your kit doesnt have a HC or Itti bitti I am more than happy to lend you one of each of mine if you like

I will say that I am a big fan of sized nappies, OSFA are way to bulky on Jake.

Thanks for the advice everyone - sorry I have been MIA for a while. I've now finished up with work and have more time for my research!!!

Thanks Mel - yes it is me.

Damn this nesting - I want get everything sorted now and I can't wait. But of course, unless I was a millionaire and could afford to just buy a few of every kind of nappy to use, its probably best to wait and see how our girl and I cope with the different nappies in the hire kit. I really don't want to buy too much stuff now (i'm not just talking about nappies) as I know there will be things that I never use and will be wasted - I hate wastage!

There are not the Aussie brands that I listed in the hire kit though.... research time

Definitely wait til your bubs is here, and play around with the hire kit - I wish I had tried hiring first!
