Ok, so yes I am showing off my wee man... butI just have to tell you all that Alex is crawling!! And not only that but all in one day he learnt to crawl, open the drawers and cupboards in both the kitchen and bathroom, and to pull himself up on things. So now I am off to get some latches for all the cupboars!! The fun begins!!!!!

Just wondering... have you ladies totally rearanged your homes so that your kids can't hurt themselves and get into things they shouldn't. Or have you taught them not to go into certain areas? I don't want to have to change everything around, but I don't want Alex to get hurt, and he is really too young to teach where not to go. Hmmm what to do?? I will get those latches for the cupboard so he cant get into the cleaning stuff etc. I have moved some furniture, but have other stuff I can't move. Like the bar stools, which he can climb on and Im afraid they will tip on him. Any suggestions?? Arrrggg... why did I want him to be able to move!!

I was lucky that Maya wasn't really a fiddler. I put catches on the things that were safety issues like chemicals and stuff but she wasn't really interested in playing with the TV, video etc.

I also bought corner protectors for the coffee table and TV cabinet as I worried about her hitting her head or catching her eye on the sharp corners.

Not sure what the answer is with the bar stools. Can you maybe push them right under the bar so he can't get up on them?

Can't really move them under the bar. Might just take them away for awhile, we don't really use the breakfast bar much anyway. Maybe I will just stock up on Pamol and bandaids!!

Taine is an "explorer" and constantly heads for the door/gravel/computer cords/bathroom. We keep the bathroom door closed, have moved all the cleaners, have a gate for the outside and just keep moving him when he goes for the gravel. We haven't changed much apart from putting Jake's little animals in his bedroom, rather than in the lounge. taine is a "everything in my mouth" child. I worry about cockroaches.

My Briona is quite the explorer at the moment, fortunately she's a bit older and she now KNOWS what she can't touch - not that it always stops her!

At our place we put up the stuff that really mattered and left everything else down to be learned off. It's hard with the 9-10 month age as they require a lot of watching and removing and don't catch on to "no" as early as we'd like. I guess it comes down to how much you can be bothered at the end of the day.

Nicola....Zaara goes every where and touches every thing but we always say "no Zaara ...no touchy touchy....you will get an ouchy" and she tends to listen....as when she does not she got hurt a few times.

Some places she just avoids as we always tell her not to go there or touch. some times tho she goes to places she is not allowed and looks at us to see what we will do.....we go and pick her up and tell her "NO" the only thing I have done is bought those plastic switch board protectors and removed the wine bottles from the nice wine rack we have. Other than that I have changed nothing. I removed all cleaning products to the garage so that she does not have access to that.

You cant help that they get hurt...its bound to happen!!

WE're much the same Roksana. We tell Hannah no and then move her somewhere else, and she has kinda caught onto that. She's the same as Zaara, looks at you when she is somewhere she shouldnt be - so they obviously know! I have just moved the coffee table and taped up a few drawers and cupboards.

i never had that problem until jack was old enough to understand what 'no' meant, he didn't crawl until 13mths! before that he rolled everywhere but there's not much around floor level for him to get into apart from bibs and nappies on the bottom of the change table....which use to end up everywhere

sorry that wasn't much help at all

We have our DVD player/playstation and stereo all at kid level... and it was fine with just telling Han not to touch... until she learnt about putting things in the DVD thingy. Luckily so far it has only been CDs or DVDs, but I did find a coaster in my CD Rom in my computer

So basically, you can just operate on a basis of not touching things... providing you are comfortable with the fact that when you aren't looking they are bound to be touched (atleast once). It does make it semi-easy if you go to a non-baby friendly house as DVD players etc aren't a novelty.

LOL....Zaara knows how to press on the button that gets the video tape out...but once it comes out she crawls away from it...fast. I think she is scared of it...and yet she does it every time! She still does not know how to open the DVD player...however she does try pressing on every button available......Kids always love these things huh?

I cant afford to get her hands on our brand new $4800 system......

Well I just went and bought some things to stop the bottom drawer in the bathroom from being opened. Other than that I am going to see how we go with telling him no and moving him away (we have been doing that for awhile now- esp with cords) oh i do have the socket protectors too. Will see how we go.......
