Hey Guys!

So I've been having cramps the last few days which have got me a little worried, they feel like period cramps down low along between my hips IYGWIM. I'm just wondering if this is normal for where I am in pregnancy (17w4d) I guess the reason I'm more worried is because I am the only one left in the december thread (i think) that hasn't felt any movement at all yet. Sorry for being a pain as usual but any thoughts would be much appreciated!

Hey Bex,

I only started feeling movement in the last 2 days, and it's still at the I wonder if it's real stage.

I haven't had any persistent cramping since 8 weeks so can't help there. Have you called your MW yet to ask?

I'm sure everything is fine, you get all sorts of weird cramps when you're pregnant, and I bet you'll start feeling bubs move in the next few weeks - I didn't feel anything first pregnancy until over 18.5 weeks.

I felt stretching pains often, I think it was baby growing & making room inside me. But if you dont feel right talk with your MW to put your mind at ease.
I started to feel my 1st movement around the 18-20wk mark

geeze - just wrote out a comment and lost it!!

Don't worry about not feeling movement yet - I didn't until I was about 17-18 weeks (I have an at the back placenta) but it can take another month if you have an at the front placenta.

The time between MS finishing and feeling movement was the hardest time for me. I swear I worried there was something with bubs most days.

If there is anything you are feeling that worries you, call your LMC. Its what they are there for!!   I;d rather feel like a worrywart PIA then regret not checking something out.

Could they be braxton hicks? I'm suspicious I've been getting these. They don't hurt or anything, just occassional crampy tightenings in my tum.

Btw, the first few times I felt movement, I was lying on my tummy on a hard floor (painting the skirting board, sigh), so I think my uterus was a bit compressed so he was more likely to bump the sides. It was a good week after that before I could feel him when I wasn't lying on my tummy. Maybe you could go lie on a wooden floor for a while?

hi there,

I wouldn't worry too much about not feeling anything yet as a first time mum you may not feel anything until your 21 weeks. How bad are the crampy pains? it may be some early BH but if its realy bad or your leeking any fluid or mucus I would just contact your midwife to be on the safe side.

I had movemnt from 15 weeks but thats mainly cos my placenta was posteria (sp) so I have all bubs in the front. Do you know where your placenta is?

As for the period kinda pain, I had plenty of that as well. If you are concerned get it check out

Hi Bex.

There's no need to worry about not feeling movement yet. It's completely normal. The average for first babies is around 20 weeks. Some woman don't feel anything till after 20 weeks.

As for the cramps well i got all kinds of pains right through my first pregnancy and i got heaps of cramps for weeks this time and they've started again. I think this time it's a combination of stretching and all the coughing I've been doing. lol.

When is your next MW visit? I'm sure you'll feel heaps better when you hear baby's heartbeat again.

Thanks girls!!

Deb my next midwife visit is next week... (lucky you asked coz I still thought it was a couple of weeks away) I haven't managed to get to hear the heartbeat yet, have only had one other visit with her and she didn't want to risk not being able to hear the heartbeat so didn't try.

Midwife didn't seem fussed about the cramps when I talked to her, she said because there hadn't been any bleeding I shouldn't worry and Its probably just uterus stretching.

Still am getting them though just trying to rest and not push myself too much.

LOL my MW rang me this afternoon and was like we had an appointment booked for today. Oops hehe i thought it was next week. So she changed it to next week. I couldn't have gone anyway as I'm still getting over the flu.

Cool so you'll get to hear baby's heartbeat then, i recorded the baby's heartbeat on DP's mobile at my last MW visit. I just held it close to the doppler.

Speaking of cramps i'm getting them right now. My belly feels SO stretched today, so uncomfortable. I think the baby has had a growth spurt lately.

Ooops baby brain huh!! Damn that you've had the flu hun hope you feel better soon!

Ooh might have to use your idea and record it so that DP can hear it coz he wont get to come to that appointment.

Hmmm I wonder whether bubs might be having a big grow this week coz as well as the cramps I've been even more tired than normal! Might make sense as to why I'm getting the cramps too huh!

Bex - I had some pretty yucky cramps yesterday too. On and off all day. Just feels like a dull ache right across my uterus. Like your MW said, there is no bleeding and no other bad symtoms so I wouldn't worry. Hard as that may be

Hey Bex, i had the same thing at about 17-18 weeks, the streching crampy feeling.
I find it funny cos we have the same midwife and i txt her about it and got the same response that its prolly just streching!
Im sure bubs is fine, remember your uterus goes from being the size of a deflated balloon to being a massive blown up one so bound to be some streching pains and everything has to move out of the way and stuff.

LOL yeah ok i'll blame it on baby brain. My flu is starting to go away, feeling quite a bit better now. The cough is driving me nuts though.

Yep it could just be because baby is having a growth spurt, which mine seems to be doing. My belly feels all stretched and uncomfortable. I have to be careful or it hurts and feels like I'm gonna pull a muscle.

Thanks girlies!! I'm just a pregnant mess at the moment lol, I banged my head on DPs just as I was going to sleep last night and ended up bawling my eyes out for like 15 minutes completely hysterical... What a dork huh!! Think I may have felt bub move this morning though... was lying in bed and got like this random tightening, funny feeling below my belly button.

Hannah that is crack up huh! oooh only 10 weeks left for ya!!
