My grandma's friend (who was a rural nurse back in the day) said that they used to tell ladies that when they could fit their hand (sideways, all fingers etc) between their bust and the top of their bump, they had 3 weeks to go before baby was born. When that happened, the ladies that were out on the farms (esp in the high country etc) were to make their way into town to wait for the baby to come.

Apparently it doesn't matter how you are carrying as the FH wouldn't be affected by the size of your bump etc.

So... try it out and then see if you pop in the next 3 weeks! When I was 1/5 engaged, I had 1 finger not able to fit. At 2/5 engaged, I could just about fit that finger in, and now baby has dropped even more and I can fit more than my blimmin hand there! Baby has to wait till 36w6d as her daddy is away

Would be interested to see what you all get I'd never heard of it until now.

Interesting. I didn't get to that stage until I was well overdue, after being induced, then after they broke my waters my tummy finally dropped a bit.
Jody didn't engage until she was on her way out though.

Haha no don't worry Sheena, my mum showed me what she meant cos my preggy brain didn't get it either!

So when you're standing up, put your hand flat (horizontally) just under your bust. They reckon that if you can fit your whole flat hand between your bust and the very top of your bump, then you're about 3 weeks to popping.

Umm, I can do that already! I think its because I carry so ridiculously low - last time was low but this time is even lower...there isn't even a gap to hold my pants up!

I take it that's from where your bust starts and not where it's drooped to?
