One of my friends needs this if shes going to have children and I really feel for her. I personally couldn't do it. I hate being pregnant and don't think I could carry someone elses child and then hand it over at the end of it.

I would be a bit the same there, however seeing the actual parents so overjoyed with their baby would be amazing!

My sister & I were talking about surrogacy when I told her that we had just starting TTC - she said that I was the only person she would do it for. She has already had two kids so I know I won't be in that position but I know I would definitely have done it for her too. As much as I would love to, I don't think I could do it for anyone else.

Yeah your right there but giving the gift of a baby would be so great. Maybe I want to do it because I feel guilty its so easy for me to get pregnant..

Good on you Madiandme. Its something I have thought about as I have a very good friend who has been trying for 7 years to have children and even after IVF has been unsuccessful. I know I would find it incredibly hard to hand the baby over after birth so IF I ever do it I would need a lot of counselling before and afterwards. Am I right in thinking that you are meant to have finished your own family first?

Yeah that's the general rule, but I think its really up to you. I've often pondered the thought of surrogacy. at 24 I've definitely not completed my family!. I loved being pregnant, and though of course there would be those maternal instincts felt, I would definitely do it for someone close to me. To be able to be part of creating a gift so longed for, yet is out of  reach for someone I care for,how could you not want to help knowing that indeed you could.

I'd do it for my sister definitely.
As for someone else hmm I think if you had the right boundaries for yourself and the parents you could get through it fine. I know someone who did it and they wouldn't speak to the baby, touch their stomach or basically refer to the child as anything but the parents child. She was able to hand the baby over and only had a touch of the 3 day baby blues. She said it was always their baby in her head and she never EVER let herself connect with the baby. She now sees the kid but just has an aunty-type relationship with him.

It's funny I have found this thread as I have always wanted to do it.
I talked to hubby about it when I first met him and he was dead against it. Now nearly 6yrs later he has told me that he doesn't think the idea is that bad.
So if the timing is right, after we have our next baby then I would be happy to do a surrogacy where it is there egg and sperm.
But with us ttcing for over 2years now and me turning 35yr old this year, I don't know if I am going to run out of time to do it.
There is a surrogacy N.Z website, which is quiet interesting as they tell you all the legalites of it all.

I don't have children yet but I think I would be open to being a surrogate for family or very close friends, I wouldn't be able to donate eggs though.

It just depends on how complicated you want it to be.
If you use your eggs and there sperm, then it is less complicated, no medication and can do it at home with a turkey baster and a sperm sample.
Or
You use there eggs and there sperm and you have to then go through a fertility clinic, get councelling done, do IVF to get pregnant.

I think I could do it for my friend who looks like won't be able to carry a baby to term herself. I don't think I'd do it for just anyone.... I had fairly easy pregnancys and births so guess thats why I wouldn't mind. I would actually love to be pregnant againa nd have another baby even though we def dont want anymore kikds for a while if ever.

I'm not sure I could do it but I think if I was it would be for a couple I didn't know at all... I can't imagine doing it for my sister & then having to see the baby , even though genetically it wouldn't be mine.

But it's not something I have given much thought to.

I can only imagine doing it for my sister - probably not my sister in law though, but she has a child anyway. I trust my sister in every way so would know the child is safe, and basically after DH she is the one person I would do anything for.

And use their sperm + egg. That way it wouldn't be mine at all. But I would definetly want to be involved in some way..

I would do it without hesistation for my sister, had it been necessary... and maybe close friends.... definitely would be using their egg though, otherwise there is no way I could hand over the baby...

i admire anyone who could do it...I don't have a sister so i *might* think differently if i did?but I hate being pregnant as well so there is that..and that I am so in love with my baby already and don't think i could separate out that it wasn't mine if the baby is growing in me...

it is truly an amazing gift..i think everyone agrees on that but not one a lot of people could give..?

if i was younger...had my children and had great pregnancies and had a sister I might consider it I guess?
Mum to two amazing boys!
