I think that when it comes to labour ignorance is bliss. When I was pg with Jack I worked to 38wks, had a day of pampering then had jobs/chores to do, then he was born 9 days early. I had no time to think about things.

With this baby I have been ready (baby clothes washed, room sorted, hosp bag packed etc) for a few weeks now and I am getting sick of twiddling my thumbs.

I am now analysing and worrying about every little niggle and starting to worry that I will miss the searly signs of labour, unless of course my waters break right at the beginning. I suppose part of it is because I need to make sure that Jack is taken care of and nothing is a rush.

I have been having heaps of BH this afternoon, my tummy seems to have been hard as a rock almost all afternoon and I have been having sharp pains on and off below my belly, usually towards the outside but sometimes on the inside, probably about the cervix area. I am so worried that I am ready things into these pains that aren't really real. I don't want to seem neurotic and ring my mw especially as it is night time. I suppose I am scared that it is all just wishful thinking as I am really ready for this baby to arrive.

Anyway that is the end of my rambling, wasn't sure who to talk to so thought I would just ramble to all you ladies!
Lindsey

This pregnancy I worried that I wouldn't remember what contractions would feel like , I was on the net allll the time looking up "what do contractions feel like " and "what does a show look like " , "have my waters broken "
But then , I got those real contractions , the ones that take your breath away , and there was no doubt ...it all came flooding back in a horrible memory :-P

yours will too

oh , and make sure you walk as much as poss , and get on your hands and knees a lot, because 2nd babies do have a habit of false labour , and these at least help get them into a good position

I am glad i am not the only one. I have been looking through by books trying to remember how to know the onset of labour. I suppose because the first sign with Jack was my waters breaking it was quite easy to know.

I think I am panicing a bit as well because Mum is supposed to be at the birth with DH and I while Dad looks after Jack. They live 20mins away but this weekend are babysitting my cousins so are now 1hr+ away. I am worried that I will realise too late that I am in labour, especially if it happens at night.

This is doing my head in!

This time exactly a year ago (minus a few hours now) I was in exactly your position! I was having contractions all day but wasn't sure whether it was labour or not. I rang my midwife and said "I wouldn't put money on it exactly, but I think I might be in labour". I didn't know for absolute certain until my waters broke (then it all got a bit more ouchy). So you're not alone!

I have been getting backaches all day and have had period type pains low down and occasionally sharp pains on my right side. Could this be early labour??

Well as it turns out, I was in labour!! So much for knowing 2nd time around!
Didn't pick it until I had my show at 9pm then waters broke 11pm. Contractions all of a sudden got really strong just before midnight. Got to the hospital about 2.05am and Ben was born at 2.33am!

bit too late for that babe! but me thinks cos you had such a crap time the first time , its only fair that this time you get no false labour and your labour is nice and easy
and quick ! the second stage was so quick this time , I thought I was still 7 cms , and everyones telling me they can see him - I went from 7 to 10 cms in like , 15 mins
