Baby sign language

Hey everyone.
I have a six month old and really just wanted to say how proud I am of her.
I started using baby sign language at around 3months. Obviously she could not do them back but by giving a word an action she has caught on.
The main one we use is milk. Only a few days ago she was whinging. Just before her whinge became a cry she began doing the sign for milk.
After her feed she was content as ever!
Over the past week she has begun using it more and more often, and it seems she is calmer - less whining and crying etc.
Its so brilliant I was wondering if other mums are using it??

It is so exciting!
I didn't expect her to be signing yet.
But it sounds to me like your bubs understands!
I have read heaps of stories where babies show no sign of interest and then one day just start signing like mad. So maybe it is just a case of when there ready..

I bought a chart from TM and have pinned it to the wall above his highchair so that I see it all the time. There are photos on it and a description of how to do it....you can get books with more in depth stuff and lots more signs but I only wanted something basic in case we didn't stick with it. Every time he eats I keep saying , lets eat and doing the sign etc. With his milk I just use the milk sign and say bottle and he definately knows that one...I am also starting the sign for finished and hurt as well. mainly concentrating on what we feel are the important ones to us. I feel like a bit of an idiot sometimes but Leah also does them to him as well, so at least she has learnt them!!!!

We go to a baby sign language class once a week and Hayden loves it, started when he was 9mths and he picked up the sign for milk that first week and in the 8/9 weeks we have been going he's learnt food/eat, drink, duck, bird, plane - he tends to pick the up the ones related to the things he likes, I've been trying more, all gone, hurt all reasonably consistently but he's not cottoned on to them yet. But the great thing is its teaching him to talk as well he learnt to say bird and sign it at the same time and is trying to do the same with plane, I know what he means but its not quite there yet (plah plah). Likewise with his signs some of them are not perfect but the teacher says that is just fine and he'll get better in time, the most important thing is that he's communicating - I love that he can tell me what he needs so we'll be going to the next term as well.

Can I ask where are your baby sign language classes?

Maybe ohbaby should start an eclass! (Email Class) That would be cool. Baby sign should be more widely recognised I think. Its so brilliant

I'm in England so not much use but the two franchises I've heard of here are Tiny Talk (which we go to) and Sing n Sign. The format is really great, goes 1.30pm to 2.30pm, first half hour is singing nursery rhymes and signing - some we sit on the floor for, some we are sitting on our chairs and some we walk around the room in a big circle - and then signs of the day (what, where, mummy, daddy, bath etc etc) then either a story with the teacher using just a few key signs or musical instruments for the kids and rousing 'She'll be coming round the mountain' type songs and then the last half hour the teacher brings out a huge bag of toys for all the little ones to play with while the mummies have tea/coffee and biccies and a good old natter.

I like that its social for the kids and the mums and includes lots of singing so I dont need to pay to go to another music type class as this covers that side too.
