Topic: Tattoo on tummy Posted: 19 June 2009 at 8:46am |
This is a total superficial question!!
I have a tattoo on my tum. Its approx 1.5-2 inches below my belly button and to the side (size of an old 50c piece) so I would imagine its not completely in the firing line of stretching as my tummy grows but it will be affected.
So can anyone tell me, if/when it stretches can it go back to its original shape or will it be ruined, and can anyone recommend anything to put on it throughout the pregnancy to help return it to its former glory after the birth?

Hmm, eating a good diet inclusive of vitamin C rich foods is better for your skin than any cream. BUT in saying that I love bio oil (used that at night) and palmers fragrance free cocoa butter (used in mornings). Didn't get any new stretch marks which saved the tattoo, but then I had a c-section and they cut right through it!! So I ended up with a scar in it anyway.

I have a tattoo in a similar place but a bit lower by the sounds of it, its kind of just where the belly starts to stretch if you know what I mean? Anyways, this is my second pregnancy and the tattoo is fine and still looks like it did before pregnancy. I always rub baby oil or some other cream onto my tummy and I put it on my tattoo as well, so i think thats helped a lot.

I have a tattoo that sits alomost in line with my hip but more towards the middle side IYKWIM. Its probably a bit bigger than 2 50 cent coins.
So far i have found that it hasnt streched but that could still be to come lol. I rub bio oil on in the morning and then the palmers stuff at night (thought i would cover all my bases lol) anyway, i am more worried about as Flutterby says the event of a c-section cutting it in half

I've got one in a similar place too, however I was a bit lazy about putting cream on my belly and have stretch marks through my tattoo. You can still see the tat and what it is - not that anyone other than my DH sees my belly anymore!

Yes um I hadn't even thought of that!! Eek!! Oh well, best to be prepared for this possibility rather than it coming as a shock!

I don't have a tattoo but I can say that my whole belly has stretch marks gallore so if I did have one on my belly somewhere it would have got some through it. And I did use bio oil and cocoa butter but to no avail.

as kebakat said...if its gonna happen it will..no tattoos on my stomache for that very reason...did you not think of this at the time???
my friend has one and got no stretch marks BUT as she lost the weight the pouch, so to speak, remains lose and so did the tattoo...not such a cute idea anymore.

Yeah I did think of it at the time, hence why I got it further down and out of the immediate firing line.
Thanks for your tips ladies, hopefully just keeping up the moisterising routine and keeping fit will be enough to keep it from stretching too much.

Good question . . I didn't think at all about future pregnancy when I got mine done, it's about an inch and a half long and quite far over on my left side, so I might be okay, I think thou if it all goes horribly wrong I can just get tattoo removal done.

Or a cover up job.
I have one on my right breast that has seen better days after breastfeeding 4 babies. It's been stretched and deflated that many times now that the ink is all patchy. It didn't really occur to me that it might be affected by having babies, was rather young when I got it and not thinking about babies at all!
