I left mine in until around 5? months, and after I had my daughter popped it straight back in 3 weeks post partum, it was a bit uncomfortable but didn't close over. I'd had it for 10 years and didn't want to part with it! The decision to take it out was made when it didn't sit right anymore and started to hurt when I bumped it.

I took mine out at about 14 weeks I think. I don't think I'll put it back in. I really loved it but figure I'll be 30 at the end of the month and have a post baby body so maybe that 'stage' of my life is over lol.
You can get flexi bar things that accomodate your growing stomach so you don't have to take it out. Looking at my belly button now though I hate to imagine what it might look like if I still had my piercing in. Pretty munted i guess

I kept mine in the whole pregnancy with Jake and will prob do the same this time round. I got a couple of tiny stretchmarks around it and it was funny coz you could see it through my clothes but it was fine. Its still in now and the stretchmarks aren't visible ata ll and it looks fine. I feel naked without it lol its not going anywhere!

I took mine out at 5 months last time and about 4 months this time. I popped mine back in about 10 days after I had Jack and it was fine. Guess it depends how long you've had it as to if it closes over or not?

I had to take my tongue stud out too for the labour as I kept fainting so they were worried about if I needed a tube or whatever it would get in the way. It was out for a month all up and just had to pop the bottom again but otherwise fine to get back in.

My SIL got one of those flexibar things which worked until she was about 8 and a half months. Then one night baby had a big move around, my SIL woke up with a body COVERED in stretch marks which she had managed to avoid up until that point, and her belly button ring had popped out...the skin burst open. Yucky!

I'm wondering when to take mine out as I've had it for a good 5-6 years and DP keeps pointiing out that my belly button is starting to open up and expand, so I don't expect to be able to have it in for much longer.

I took mine out at about 6 months when my belly had got so tight that the ring was getting uncomfortable and beginning to go red. I wanted to keep the hole and was worried it would close up, but I put it back in on day 3 as soon as I got home from hospital and it was fine!

Same as everyone else I took my out around 5 months, got a couple of stretchmarks (like wee bunny ears) and then put it straight back.

A few on here have left them all the way through but I think if you leave it until it starts getting uncomfy you should be fine.

Ive still got mine in, but I got one of those flexi preggy bar thingys. Dunno if that makes any difference but if I didnt get the preggy bar I would have taken my normal bar out around 10 weeks cos it was starting to go red.

Its starting to get a bit tight now but its not going red or causing me any discomfort yet.

I've taken mine out again now, I left it in last time right up until about 8mnths then the stretch marks kicked in and I got a lovely little stretch mark right where the top of the ring goes in :( I ended up getting it re-pierced 3 years ago but think I will just leave it our forever now.

I'm pretty sure I kept my belly button ring in til about 30 weeks with Lily - I also had a plastic maternity one too but never used it.

I've noticed my belly button already starting to shrink, so am thinking it might be in the next 5-6 weeks that I'll need to take it out this time - who knows!?

Last time, I put my normal one back in within days of Lily being born - the hole was fine and not stretched at all!

I left mine in until about 36wks, and only took it out because it looked silly poking out of my clothes. I put it in a few weeks after giving birth - no probs.

I left mine in throughout both pregnancies - i had mine since i was 17 so didn't want to lose it.   I changed to a flexi bar at about 25/26 weeks when things started to stretch. It did get a very tight thin piece of skin over it but was ok. Sometimes if baby was sitting in the wrong spot it hurt to touch or if bumped cos it would stretch, but otherwise was all good, left the flexi bar in for a couple of weeks afterwards until tummy had gone down a bit then changed back to normal belly bar.   you could see if though my clothes too with my big preggy tummy but it wasn't that bad.

I also found i never got any stretch marks around it but alot of those i know who took it out had it turn into a stretch mark itself.

I guess it's a personal decision and also dependant on how stretched the skin there gets.
good luck

I took mine out at 16weeks. Didn't like the chances of it surviving a twin pregnancy. I put it back in 2 weeks after the birth with no problems at all.

My intention had been to insert the ring back in regularly during pregnancy but TBH I can't remember how often I did it

I've left mine in so far (31 weeks), sounds like it really depends on which way your tummy stretches as to whether you have problems or not (AmStaff, that's horrible wot happened to your friend!)

I've got a flexi bar in at the moment and my belly-button is nearly all the way out, but not quite, the skin over it is quite tight and thin but I've been rubbing bio-oil into it so hopefully that helps it...  I really don't want to take it out cos I doubt I'll ever get it redone..
