Topic: What else do I need??? Posted: 02 June 2009 at 8:03am |
So I'm trying to figure out what else we NEED to get....so far we have:
2 bassinets
2 cots
Double pram
6 sets of sheets (cot size, so can use them on both cot and bassinet)
At least 6 blankets - including one wool, although we are hoping to find a second one
Approx. 25-30 cloth nappies (various brands, but mainly EcoBots and TotsBots)....need to get some more inserts - what is the best type???
1 merino wrap - am getting a second one as well
Far too many clothes!!! LOL
I know we need to get more wraps - how many is ideal? We also need to get the little things like creams and bottles...and a breast pump
Is there anything else that I am missing??

See if you can get some second hand flat nappies for spill cloths or under the head cloths in their bassinettes/cots.
Wait til you try the creams that you get in your bounty pack. I find I don't really use creams with cloth nappies, only when he's in disposies.

* Feeding chairs/rockers? I still use mine couldn't live without them!
* If your breastfeeding one of those breastfeeding pillows is a must for tandem feeding. We had one it was just a giant half circle that fit around my tummy. In fact we still have it somewhere I must put that on TM!
We had 6 plain cotton wraps for the girls which we used for the first 6 months.
We also have about 30 bibs lol although for the first month or so we didn't use bibs we just used small cotton baby face cloths we got from farmers. We would just put them under their chin. It always depends on how spilly they end up being.
How exciting! Not long to go

definitely hold off the creams and stuff... you will get some inthe bounty pack.. and have you applied for your reach me pack, they usually have some cream in there....
the baby factory has some awesome wraps at good prices, i like muslin type ones with a bit of stretch... i can hunt up mine if you want and send them on, i dont need them anymore and they are in good condition. what sort of wool blanket were your after. i found the aircell ones great, also from baby factory. (i went mad on blankets, got too many of all sorts but couldnt stop myself from bying them).
flannels....

Lisa - before you list your BF pillow on TM, let me know how much you'd want for it because I keep meaning to get one I am intending to BF as much as I possibly can, even if it means formula top-ups. I have to at least give it a go, and will also try expressing so that DH can help out and they can also get used to bottles as well as the boob....
Ohhh yes, I have my ReachMe pack - must have another look through it, it's in the errr...storage room at the moment!!!
Bizzy - can you PM me with how much you would like for them At the moment we have one 100% wool blanket, but I just want more wool blankets instead of the fleece type ones you can get because they don't let the air through, I think??
We have huge amounts of the old style cloth nappies - MIL kept all of the ones she used and they're all in fantastic condition, so that's a huge help.
Flannels!! Is there any particular type of flannel that is best??? And bibs - will just any do, or is there something in particular I should look for??
It's hard when you don't know many people who are having bubs the same time as you, and I'm not likely to make many, if any, of my antenatal classes because they don't start until I'm 32 weeks pregnant

Plastic backed bibs are good and I prefer ones that stretch over the head rather than velcro or popper together, Spencer learnt quickly how to rip those ones off.
I bought some little face cloths that I use as bum wipes and then proper adult size ones but in bright colours for their faces, good to keep the two seperate
I have bought baby towels as well, perhaps unnecessary but I have found that they stay a lot softer than our normal towels which always seem a bit scratchy for baby skin unless they have been in the tumble drier.
Oh and the thing I think is really really great is travel sleeping bags, means they are always toasty warm in the pram and you can transfer them from pram, to car, to bed without having to wake them up.
Breastpump I had a medela double electric but it's broken, was very good until it broke (I flooded it with breastmilk cos I hadn't noticed the bag was kinked and not filling up). Have just bought a medela swing which is suppose to be even better. I also had a manual avent one which was very good if you only need to pump now and then.
I third about the creams, I am still using the tiny test pot of sudocream that I got in Spencer's bounty pack, my two very rarely get sore bums and when they do I give them more nakey time so rarely need to resort to creams.

I'll see how much it is to send and if you want it you can have it for just the cost of postage I doubt I'd get much for it anyway.

I havent read all other posts, but some other things are:
- old clothes nappies, for spilling. Also put under babys head in bassinet/cot.
- Breastpump, bottles. I found Tommy timmie bottles are best for expressed milk.
- Breastfeeding pillow.
- More blankets, i have gone through heaps. If baby spills you always want more clean ones. Also good for pram on to have seperate on for going out etc.
- bouncer/rocker are great when newborn until 4/5months. You can lay then flat and baby can sleep/nap in there while you are dealing with something else.
-bibs, i found the best ones were the ones with hole in middle and pull over head. Warehouse have 3 pack for $10 i think and they are great!!
Depending where you are going to BF i found i needed a foot stool. I had a rocking chair but found it very hard on my knees. A lazy boy would be ideal for BFing lol.
flannels- are great for spills, wiping babys bum in early stages.
Also found huggies nappies and wipes are the best.
Good luck with your littles ones

Those old nappies also make good inserts for the pocket nappies.
We use liners in our cloths, less messy with poo and also protects the nappy from any creams you may use.
We couldn't live without tea tree oil. We use it in the inserts soaking bucket, a few drops in her washing, a drop in her bum-wipe container, oh so many uses!
Do you have a few buckets/containers for the nursery? We have a bucket with lid for soaking, rubbish bin with lid for, well, rubbish. And a plastic storage container as a washing bin.

Hi Kate
Bibs definately
We got the boys some great muslin wraps off a lady who makes them on TM, they came with muslin wash clothes and were really really good.
They slept well wrapped up.
Soft face clothes for cleaning and have you bought baby bath wash ? We like the soothing naturals from J&J or the Milk bath, or lavender.
Talc powder?
Have you got some warm under suits for them. Hats.
Can't think what else atm.

A baby bath? Highly recommend the BIG blue baby baths at Baby Factory (I think it was around the $20 mark if that when we bought it, saw them still selling at BF the other day)- Lucas STILL insists on having his baths in his one everynight (and at 26 months old, and really tall for his age - he still fits into it sitting upright ...for how much longer I don't know ) but it has been the BEST thing we've bought considering its been used 26 months thus far...he has an aversion to my parents big bath lol!

I was in Baby factory on the weekend & they have super specials on now. All cause this new labelling that needs to be in clothes.
I pick up those top-sleeping bag things which have the seat buckle holes in them for $15.00
They also have merino clothing the cheapest I've seen. YK the plain colour stuff.
