I've paid $30 for each scan but if I was prepared to go to a different scan place it would be free.

I paid $50 at the one place (had two there)
Then $25 at another place and I got a free dvd and some photos with it.
Then I paid $50 at another place without referral and that was for a 4D scan with a DVD and some photos.
The free place just never ever got back to me. That after leaving a few messages and it was an urgent scan that needed to be done. Same with the second time so aint going to waste time. Rather just pay with money instead of stress or high BP

Scans are free in South Canterbury. I have had 4 so far with the Obstertrician and I think there are 2 more on the schedule. I think that we are lucky to see a OB regulary.

I've paid $25 for every scan I've had done.
I had one in 2004, and two in 2007, so the price hadn't changed in that time.
I was given a sheet of films with the 2004 one and a disc with photos with both the 2007 ones. DH was also given a photo print-out at the 12 week scan with Hannah
Worth every penny!

Gosh they are all so cheap
We don't pay anything before 12 weeks at the place we use, but after that the scans are $95. If I wanted 4D I would have to pay more on top of that - hence no 4D pictures yet

In Palmy my scan at 6 weeks was free, but my nuchal scan will be $50. Not sure about the anatomy scan yet. I didn't get photos or anything at 6 weeks, but for $50 I better get one at 12 weeks!

My scans in Palmy were $40 I had NT & Anatomy that I had to pay for and I had 3 or 4 more that were free because they couldn't get everything at the scans.

I paid $25 or $30 for the first 3 and as I had minimal movement with bubs I had about another 4 - and they were free.

Leahsmummy, yeah, scans have gone up $10 in the last month or so. My midwife said it would be $40 when she gave me the referral at 6 weeks, but when I booked it the lady said they are now $50. Bit stink, but oh well.
Apparently you can get them done at the hospital for free, without a photo, but last time I had a scan done at the hospital (not maternity related, but the same people) I ended up waiting for 90 minutes beyond my appointment time and it was torture on my poor bladder! So I'd rather pay the $50 to get the photo and to not have to wait for hours (emergencies get bumped in front at the hospital- fair enough, but can make for a long wait!). I've got the first appt of the day at the scan place on Wednesday, so hopefully should all be on time

We paid $30-$40 (can't remember exact) for the 12 weeks one @ Pacific Radiology, but the 20 week one was free

SOunds like there are some places that charge quite a bit. Seems weird that it varies so much through the country. We dont mind paying but i was a bit shocked given that all other maternity related stuff is generally covered.

We haven't paid anything yet - for Ollie's 20 week one last year or the 8 week one we've just had. We've been to Pacific Radiology both times. Weird that it varies so much!

Same here - are you using Insight as well? Insight is more expensive than other places, but specialises in obstretric scans (is that the right term?) . |
Yup we are using Insight. I know they are expensive, but love that they have all the cool gadgets.
It was awesome going there for my first scan with this baby and having them remember me from my scans with Samantha too
