Topic: Best time for Anatomy Scan Posted: 26 May 2009 at 10:58am |
I think there have been other threads about this but...
When is the best time for this? I thought anytime 18-20 weeks - mine is booked for 18+5 days - will that be ok? My OB said 20 weeks but when I rang to book and gave them my due date, they gave me the date of 15 June. Should I change it to be a week later???

Yeah it will be fine.
I had my anatomy scan with Jared at exactly 20 weeks, if I ever get preggers again I'll be doing it as close to 18 weeks as possible

They say that the later you have the scan the more accurate it is but I had mine for Michaela at 18 weeks and it was 100% accurate so I'm sure you'll be fine. If they're not certain about anything and want the baby to grow some more they'll rebook you for another couple of weeks time so worst comes to worst you get to see your baby twice.

I think I was also told 20 weeks rather than earlier. The place I go to likes to do scans later though, e.g. nuchal scan at 13 weeks rather than 12.

Considering this baby is already measuring 17 weeks at the scan today and despite the argument with my OB this morning that I had about putting my dates back again (so I would only be 16 weeks tomorrow) I am hoping its gonna be fine.
And if not, yes, Ill just have to go back again.

I had mine at exactly 18 weeks. The lady that did my scan told me that 20 weeks would have been better but she was a grump and I didn't care I was just dying to know the sex lol I couldn't have waited any longer. They were able to tell me the sex of both babies at that scan.

I had mine at 19 weeks with Leah and had to have another cos she was small so I had one at 25 weeks, so much easier to see everything.
With Joel they told me to wait till 22 weeks so everything would be easier to see, and that was fine.
Good luck.

Like kebakat I would go closer to 18 weeks rather than 20, probably for similar reasons..

I had mine at 21 weeks as that's when they booked me in for. At the scan I was told I'm measuring 10 days ahead and due to the size of the baby, it was difficult to get all the necessary measurements. Not my fault though, I would have loved to have had the scan earlier!

My OB said to have one at 19wks, so I went at 19wks. I think they like the baby to be at least 18wks in size to get everything measured properly.

I went in at 18w6d and was told within seconds that bubs is a gir (several scans since have confirmed that she is indeed, a she... so im guessing it was accurate..I hope so!)l... unfortunately, size and awkward position meant I had to go back about 2 weeks later to get all the measurements neccessary

My DS will be here for school holidays when i am 18 weeks so we will be going then. Im gonna be safe and go with a friend of the family so that i dont get any grumpy person saying its too early!!!!
Im even gonna be cheeky tomorrow (even tho i know theres no chance of getting an accurate answer) ask tomorrow at my 12 week scan........LOL
MrsMojo - your 100% accurate cracked me up.........what would happend if they were only 50% accurate in the end?? LOL.........sorry but that was funny i suppose it can only be 100% or 0%
