This is something ive been wondering for a while, and of course, I don't mean any offence to anyone (I never do ) im just genuinely curious ....

I notice a lot of "thinking pink " or "hoping for a pink one " in peoples tickers, usually, (actually I think all ) women who already have boys...but I never see any "hoping for a blue one " from women who have already got girls ....
Is this because girls are more desired ? Is the idea of a girl more popular ? or because women feel that they aren't complete without a daughter?, or is it the whole mum, dad , son and daughter thing ?

to be honest, everytime I have been pregnant, i've really wanted a girl. I think it's just so i can live vicariously through her - and pass on my cabbage kid and strawberry shortckae dolls to someone who doesn;t play 'wrestling" with them. Boys, initially, seem like some foreign creature.

But now, can't imagine life with a girl, and even if we have another baby - I actually want a third boy.

BUT, everyone who talks to me sayd "will you try for a little girl?" and "you must have been disappointed" - nodding at Taine.

Actually i hoped for a girl because we had a girl so would have worked out cheaper.

Although then again I hoped for a boy as SD originally wanted a boy when we had Issy.

So in the end .. I wasnt really fussed as either way it worked out for us.

Having said that, if I had a boy first, I think I would have wanted a girl the next time around just because girls are like big dolls that you can dress up (oh and I have a theory that its girls that look after their parents when they get older, as boys tend to get married to girls, who look after their parents .. hope that made sense)

If I thought I had a choice in the matter (after being told we had to resort to IVF to even HAVE a baby, I wasnt exactly fussed either way when this little surprise turned up!) I would have asked for a boy... only because I HAVE a boy, and then could use the clothes I had painstakenly kept from my first, and I reckon I would cope better with a boy tbh lol.. girls scare me... I cannot imagine another me, or female version of DP (his family is notorious for their pig-headedness!) in this family... guess I had best get used to it tho!

haha , girls scare me too Lisa , well my daughter does anyway

I do think tho, that if C hadn't been a girl , I would have been hoping for a girl this time, I was so glad when I found out she was a girl .
And because I already HAD a girl , I really, honestly , truly , didn't mind what this one was ...but when they said it was a boy , it felt really ...right .
I wonder if the majority of men hope for a boy or girl then (if they did have a preference )

SD wanted a boy first time around .. then this time, he wanted a girl, because he had a girl, so was "experienced" lol .. apparently the idea of a boy scared him to death!

However now he has a boy on the way he is thinking its going to be pretty cool to have a mini him running around.

DP didnt mind either way... a boy would have been nice as he is the only one in this family to have biological kids that could pass on the family name (his dad is adopted and only child, so no cousins to help out, and DP's brothers wives are both older with teenaged girls and are done and dusted there lol) and he wants to be able to take baby to speedway and league games etc just like he got to do as a kid...

but he also thought a girl would be great as his mum always wanted a girl, and ended up with 3 boys (she was always sure that the 2 babies she lost inbetween them were the girls she couldnt have)

So while he is thrilled that we are having the girl his mum always wanted (at one hell of a price tho ) I reckon he would have been just as thrilled had baby been a boy

Meanwhile while preg with B I was constantly in the 'omg... its a BABY!' state of mind LOL! wasn't too fussed either way... was just s***ting myself at what was going to happen to life as I knew it!

Funnily enough i want a boy lol! Of course i will be happy as long as i have a healthy wee baby at the end of this but i would much prefer a boy, also not really worried about trying for a girl if this one is a boy but if this one is a girl might look at trying for a boy. I spose thats quite odd to most people huh?

When i was a little girl i always wanted to have a daughter when i grew up because all my cabage patch dolls were girls so of course i figured every woman had a girl first! lol my mum only had girls...

so...when i was first pregnant i "expected" to naturally have a girl and was rather disapointed!! DH however - once he got use to actually expecting a baby in general! lol (7months pregnant!!! ) he admitted that he wanted a son for all the boy reasons! *rolls eyes!*.

Second time around i had flashes of wanting a girl then thought it would be neat to have another boy for many reasons then moved into the mindset - "anything will do" lol seen as he took so long to concieve!....im glad i had a boy again!!..

this time - when i first got pregnant i had the "think pink" mentality but quickly snapped out of it because il be super greatful for whatever i get!! and i believe you get what you are "meant" to have .....i do think this baby is a girl though! lol but i couldnt care less what it comes out as so long as it comes out soon! we also only have a boys name so murphys law!!

LOL when we TTC again I'll be one of those thinking pink. But that's only because we already have a boy... if JJ had been a girl I would have been thinking blue for the second one. I just always thought it would be nice to have one of each (which heaps of people on here seem to be getting atm! eg Kelly, Kazzle, lilfatty, MrsMojo...)

oh and lilfatty you're right... and I remember reading somewhere that statistically speaking, mums with daughters rather than sons live longer!

If I find the link I'll add it, but it was something like if you had an adult daughter you could add a year to your life expectancy but if you had an adult son you could take 5 years off... not *exactly* sure why but most likely a combination of daughters caring for their parents and sons possibly being more stressful. (Although I think I would much rather deal with a teenage boy than a teenage girl!)

If N had been a boy, I definitely would have been thinking pink second time around too. For me, not having a Mum around (and I hope this doesn't sound disturbed in any way), I really wanted that mother-daughter connection again in my life....even if it was being on the other side of it. I know you can have the same great releationship with a son, but coming from an extended family where the girls far outweigh the boys (and everyone has always had a girl first baby), having a girl just seemed like an extra blessing iykwim. Next time around, I will be totally happy with either boy or girl. DH wanted a girl too - I think because he's a bit of a geek and not really sporty, he was a little worried about the stereotypical father/son sporty thing if N had been a boy.

and you've got to love (some of) the pink clothes! (coming from someone whose wardrobe is predominantly black!) It is a bit like playing dress-up too.

partly because I have such an awesome brother I wanted our first to be a boy and because I'm not a girly girl....DH (even though he is a carpenter) didn't mind but would have been stoked with a girl...lol ... but yeah anyway next time will be hoping for another boy but the extended family wants me to have a girl.. (only me having babies on one side and on the other all older and mostly boys)

This time, I'm hoping for a boy, but DH for a girl. I'd like at least one of each ideally, but no doubt I'll love whatever I get! I'm quite a tomboy really so would possibly get on better with a boy anyway. I'm not sure how I'd cope with a daughter like some of my sisters are!
