Just hoping someone might be able to help me with this before I confront my boss...

My PPL ended on Good Friday and I returned to work on Tuesday the 14th. It would have been the 13th except that it was Easter Monday. Am I meant to be paid for that day? I am of the view that I am but want to make sure before I say anything!!

Depends when your official first day back at work was I guess. If you returned to work from 13 April 2009 and Monday is a day that you would ordinarily work then yes you should be paid for it.

Ohhh that's grey....Does your PPL form say the 13th or 14th?

If it says the 13th then yes definitely as it would be an otherwise working day, if the 14th then no.

If not and was some other date I'd speak to DOL.

Yea if you're contract says your start date is 13th then you should be paid for the public holiday.

well i have checked my letter from ird and it says ppl ended 12th april. which mrans starting work on 13th and only reason i didnt was cos its a public hol. so should i be cheeky and ask to be paid for that day??? i want to but feel stink if i do....

Although your official start date was the 13th you aren't entitled to be paid for it.

From what I understand for stat days worked you get paid the same amount as you did on that particular day for the two weeks prior.  I.e. if you have worked the 2 mondays prior you would get paid the same amount you did on those days, but since you didn't you get nothing.

Yeah I think Jo's right - that's how the AL calcs work too which is why it's better to take your AL before your mat leave (so long as you don't go past baby's first birthday in total) rather than after as the payments are based on earnings over the year previous to you taking it rather than when you accrued it.

Confusing aye? but in short I think you will find that you did get paid - it's just that 8 x $0 = $0
