Topic: Bleeding (TMI) Posted: 08 April 2009 at 11:36am |
So, Lydia is now 5 weeks old, and I appear to have started bleeding again. I finished heavy bleeding within 4 days of her birth, and the last 2 weeks has been little enough to just wear a liner, and has been brown. Today, it's started up red again, and heavier. I understand that it can get heavier again after being light, but I didn't think it was meant to get red again?
Please tell me I haven't got my period back again already...

I hate to say it, but I got my AF back four weeks post-partum, even with exclusively BF. In saying that, if its very heavy or you have clotting, get yourself to the doctor asap as it can be a sign of infection or retained products.

PP bleeding usually lasts up to 6 weeks, and it can come back red from almost nothing, it shouldn't last too long though, if you start getting big clots and pain them let your MW know.
You could let her know anyways, but its most probably fine.
It *could* be AF, but its most likley just PP bleeding still.

Same thing happened to me. All cleared up at 4 weeks, then bleeding again at around 6 weeks, I thought it was a light period but it hasn't come back since.
I agree with the others, if it's heavy and clotty get checked

I got AF at 6 weeks PP, but nothing for about 8 months after that.
So could be just One Of Those Things Noone Tells You About Birth

Thanks ladies, it just freaked me out a little! I'm not expecting any clots or anything, they scanned my uterus when they were looking at my kidneys when she was 8 days old, and there was nothing there.
Here's hoping it goes away again for months...

Have you had extra cramps lately or been a bit more energetic (gone for a walk or on your feet a bit)? That can set off the PP bleeding again - probably for the last time in your case, I would say.

Better out than in, I say I would think it would still be PP bleeding too. Lucky that you only got away with a liner for a while though - I was on maternity pads for 6 weeks before it stopped immediately, then got AF at 8 weeks PP! Now THAT'S annoying
