hi, i had a miscarridge last year, and i'm now pregnant again which i'm VERY pleased about. Trouble is, i just can't shake the thoughts of "this isn't going to last". I'm about 6 weeks, i have exactly the same feelings as last year; but again no morning sickness. i was told i lacked hormones during the last pregnancy, hence no morning sickness. Any reasurance out there?
thanks, x

Hey, Ive been in your shoes, had a m/c in July 07, got pregnant with my son September 07 and until 12 weeks i was just so worried I was going to loose him, I just couldnt see the pregnancy lasting!

I did have morning sickness with him, but I also had bleeding so I felt really uneasy, but things went well after the bleeding stopped and once i saw him on the scan I started to enjoy the pregnancy and relaxed.

This pregnancy, I had hardly any ms, and more bleeding, so again I thought I was having a miscarriage, had cramps aswell, but again things turned out fine.

Having no ms doesnt mean anything, some women get it and some women dont, or you are like me and have it bad with one and hardly any with the next, every pregnancy is different
Try to relax a bit and take some deep breaths and think positive, and Im sure things will be fine **hugs**

thanks Sheza, I think i may request an early scan? Is that possible do you know? I decided to go with a different midwife to last year (fresh start and all that) so have first meeting with her tomorrow. Its so good to have found this site, i'm fairly new to NZ (no family here other than hubby) so don't have too many people to turn to. x

Hi, I had a miscarriage just over a year ago and when I got pregnant again I was very uneasy about it and for a long time it didn't seem real and I didn't want to get attached so all those feelings are normal.

Also i wouldn't get too caught up with having or not having morning sickness. With my miscarriage my hcg levels (the pregnancy hormone) only got to 370ish, which is incredible low and with my next pregnancy my levels were 79000 at 7 weeks but I felt no worse than I had with the miscarriage or with my first pregnancy.

I'm now pregnant after 3 m/c in a row. I've had no m/s except some nausea, and as you can see, I'm having twins, who are healthy and very active. The worry is hard to get over...I still worry something is going to go wrong although all 5 scans I've had have shown healthy bubbas.

Good luck!!

Hi Helen, you can pay to have a scan privately if need be but most midwifes will send you for an early scan if you request one, especially to help with peace of mind after a m/c. If you do go try to wait till after 7 weeks as then you will be sure to see a heartbeat if all is going along as it should be, before then you may not see a heartbeat but everything could still be ok and it can just make things more nerve racking.

So heartbeat isn't there till 7 weeks? I didn't know that! ok, I guess if i went for an early scan and they found no heartbeat i'd be in an even worse state! thanks for that! x

Quite often it is there by 6 weeks and some have been seen at 5 weeks and a few days but it's not guaranteed and if it's not there it doesn't necessarily mean there is a problem but it would mean that you still wouldn't have an answer and would either have to go back the following week for another scan or end up waiting till the 12 week one. 7 weeks was what my doc recommended because it should definitely be there by then.

7 weeks is usually the earliest they like to do the early scan as it gives the best chance for a heartbeat - a heartbeat MAY be there earlier, but there's no guarantees. Usually at 7 weeks you can see just what is happening as the bubs has started to form - earlier you may only see a yolk sac and a fetal pole, which is no guarantee whatsoever. I got my early one at 7w, I was measuring 6w5d and both twins had steady healthy beating heartbeats - once I got over the immense shock (think random hysterical laughter as you're driving along the road LOL) it was a huge relief, as I was expecting to go and see nothing - and instead we saw 2 heartbeats

Welcome and congrats Helen. I had a MC last year and when I fell pg this time around I was worried the entire first trimester. In fact I still worry now and we've had our 13 weeks scan

I also had early bleeding this pregnancy too, at 4 weeks then again at 6 and 7 weeks. I would request and early scan if you can get one either from your Dr or MW. Otherwise go privately if you can afford it.

All the best hun and let us know how you get on.

Hi Helen. I have one DD and never had morning sickness with her. Then got pregnant 2 years ago and had morning sickness but lost the baby at 16 weeks. We never found out why it died.

I am now pregnant again. This time around I had morning sickness again. I also had my HCG levels measured for about 10 days and a scan at nearly 7 weeks. Your GP can organise these (the blood tests and GP visits are free) up to 12 weeks.

Good luck

Hi Helen,
I had a MC in Dec at 7.5wks and I'm also worried about this new bub. I guess its a little relief that I have MS this time round - but then as the others have said no two pregnancies are the same.
I would reccommend doing the early scan - I did and it was a relief to see there was actually someone in there! (fell pregnant straight away after the MC and I did start to wonder if my body was playing tricks on me) But I still worry and am constantly checking my knickers everytime I go tothe loo. Maybe your LMC could arrange some HCG tests as well - its a relief to see them rise and know something is doing what it should.

Hi littlestar, Thanks for your msg.
Still no M/S, although I have felt like I may be sick...?! Had my first LMC meeting and she is happy to get the early scan organised for me. She did mention about doing blood tests for 3days in a row as well, but said I should just keep calm untill the scan. 10 days, then I may be able to relax slightly, but untill I know, I just can't allow myself to believe it may be a baby in me!

Hi Helen,

I miscarried in November and then fell pregnant in January, so I know just what you're going through.

I think the hardest part was just not feeling excited. That said, I don't think I realised just how worried I was until I got a scan at 10 weeks that showed a happy and healthy baby in there.

My only advice is to be easy on yourself, rest when you need it and realise that you're not just dealing with the normal first trimester stuff, but a whole heap of extra emotional stuff as well. Also, all those excited feelings you had the first time, they will come this time too. Just might take a bit longer.

Also, my MS didn't kick in good and proper till about 7.5 weeks.

Hi everyone, Im new to this, only 7 weeks pregnant. Just a little concerned because I have had what I thought was extreme morning sickness for the past 4 days and I woke up this morning and only feel queasy. I have had a scan 4 days ago and saw the heart beat and have had blood tests to check my hcg levels are rising and they are. Im just concerned because I keep getting pains in my stomach and aches, is this normal and now Im worried cause Im not feeling so ill (which is fantastic). Has anyone else experienced this?

Hey Julie,

I had bad MS for a few days, then nothing, then bad again (and ended up puking till about 19 weeks but nothing serious) .. right before my 8 week scan I had a day where I didn't feel sick at all and was so worried I went to see my GP about it. He said "Enjoy it - you won't get many days like this!"

He was right, I felt sick again that afternoon

Hi Julie,

Once you see a heartbeat on a scan, then the chance of having a healthy pregnancy rises to something like 95% so try and relax (easier said than done!) and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy - aches and pains are completely normal.
