Its totally up to you, I had an emergency c section after a horrible 48 hour labour. I had to have a blood transfusion afterwards and I had a few other problems, but my wound healed really well considering how rushed it was.
This time, I am trying for a natural birth, cos I dont want to go through a c section again, it was horrible, i could hardly hold caden for weeks, it was so awkward and painful, and I found the whole thing really upsetting, but thats just me.
So thats why this time, Im doing whatever I can to have her naturally....even though my first attempt at a natural delivery went pear shaped.

Hi, I had high BP so was induced but had a normal VB delivery with no stitches .... My MW was pushing for a C Sec because of my BP but the consultant said I had gone to far and I was just about there and after 5 hrs I delivered - I can't speak high enough of the epidural which was done just after my waters were broken (it had to be done twice cause blood got in the line - but that doesn't happen often) - I don't remember ANYTHING- poor hubby I don't think he will forget in a while and I will definately want one of those again!!!! Good luck.

Oh yes, I had an epidural about 2 hours before Caden was born and it was a life saver it really was! I gave me a chance to rest up a bit and I dilated much faster after that.
Still ended in C Section but thats because Caden was in a bad position and they couldnt push the lip of cervix out the way cos of where his ehad was and there was no way I could push him out.

I loooved my c-section, because it was planned the whole thing went so smoothly. I had my date a couple of months in advance and was first on the list for the day so I went in at 7am and by 8.30am I was in theatre. The whole thing took 45mins and I never used any morphine afterwards. I loved that all I had to do was lie their and let everyone else do the work lol. Plus I felt like I had more control that way. There's was no worry that I might end up in an emergency C/section which I couldn't stand the thought of. I healed so much faster than I expected as well. I'll be having any future kids the same way

Check out the c/section support thread there's a wealth of info there and good luck which ever way you go chic

Its such a hard decision because its so unknown.

If you have a c-section then you have a date you work with, you know what is happening and I would say (although no expert) that the recovery would be better than your last experience. I think I read somewhere that recovery was better with elective c-sections versus emergency ones.

If you have a natural birth (with an epi) then could you maybe look at being induced? Would that help? Then give it so long and if things look like they are going to be like last time change to a c-section?

The most important thing is as we know getting baby out healthy but gosh, you want to enjoy your baby from day one. I'm rambling now also but thats because no one can really give you an answer. If it was me, I'd opt for the c-section. Recovery would be a bit longer but you should be able to enjoy bubs from the moment they are born.

Okay granted I had a c-section done in SA under total different circumstances but here was my experience.

I wanted a natural waterbirth and we were all on board with it. For ten days before I saw the dr again I was having sharp contractions. Some lasting as long as 5 minutes a minute apart and then after about 12 of them it will stop. So thought okay great not real labour or something.

When I got to see her she immediately checked it out and it was all real contractions but down there nothing was happening. McKayla was still high up and not engaged at all.

So choices: My BP was going slightly up, M was fine for now but she wouldnt let me go over due dates (we had a few mc's and I had BP problems before pregnancy and it spikes quite quickly in stress). We could induce but she said that makes contractions stronger and about 70% to 90% of the cases like mine lands up in an emergency cesear.

You are sore from the birth then you have a cesear and it is just double pain. Emergency cesears are far more painful than elective ones.

I knew something was up as the whole time she wouldnt discuss cesear with me and here she was giving it up on a platter.

Good thing I did. McKayla when she got out: Skull a bit crushed, head was presenting wrong and she would have gotten stuck. Her heartrate was going erratic before hand (trouble with spinal). My BP was going sky high quite quickly and they knocked me out.

The first 24 hours they kept me hooked up to everything so I can just rest. The next morning I got up had a shower and could feel a bit of pain but refused pain killers. Really it wasnt bad at all. By the next day I could feel it but it wasnt sore as such at all. Not as much as I would have expected. Not even 10%.

Now I know all woman are different and so are surgeons but mine was great and this is the reason I am chosing another one (among other medical issues).

But once again it is your choice.

I would go with what your gut instinct says. If you want to try for a VB then I would highly recommend a epi. I had one and they are just the best!

I am having similar thoughts. Elective c-sect vs VB. I just want to know about recovery from each. One day my brain says c-sect and the next says VB. Maybe it's just preggy brain.

jjands - I think they're meaning have an epi if the pain is too much/BP too high/baby distressed etc, which of course are medical reasons.

You can't just walk in to the hospital only just in labour and request an epi on the spot though They assess you (the anaesthetists) before doing it.

I had a VBAC with #2 but my reason for a c/s was because of a mid-labour haemorrage. If there is a difficulty with your cervix having a lip, I'd raise that with the mw as I would have thought that would be a recurring problem. If bubs is still breech I doubt you will have the option of VBACing anyway, but your mw will refer you to a specialist (she has to) to discuss both options in the next few weeks.

As far as the epidural goes, it's awful to be in so much pain but labouring with an epidural can be less effective, so if your labour is quite long it can be a good thing but if things go smoother, you may want to discuss other options with your mw like fentynal and gas, maybe even TENS I'm not sure.

Hi I had a normal delivery for my first one but with an epidural which I HIGHLY recommend if you are going that way.
My second pregnancy wasn't going as well by the end. He was predicted to be over ten pounds and wasn't in a good position. He hadn't dropped down and I was eight days overdue. I didn't have that much trust in my midwife and I was an anxious wreck. I ended up choosing an elective C section and for me it was the best thing. I am not saying a third time I would do it that way again but for how I was feeling at the time it really was a good decision. I loved that I knew what was going to happen and that I felt safe and in control.
It is a really personal decision and I wish you all the best in making it.

asked for ....or yelled for ?
I certainly yelled for one , was too far dilated tho, but it was ok (she says 7 years later , psyching herself up for the next birth )

I don't know much about having a c-section , if id needed one, I would have had one , definetly , but I was lucky that my labour was very straight forward , I can tell you tho , being a csection baby myself, that c -section babies are very good looking, friendly , talented people

seriously tho, in the end it is your decision, have the mw/drs etc said if there are any risks in your case either way ? sometimes it is the less pleasant but safer option, my friend should have had a c section, but in her case (being her first) noone knew how unsafe it was for her to have one (she had an undetected blood clot ) , if they do know more info about whether its safe in your case or not, it might be easier for you to make a decision too
