My Mum tok me maternity clothes shopping on the weekend as I already look pregnant and don't want to ruin my clothes like I did last time.

Well.... Do you think I could find anything?!?!? NO!
I didn't even find anything that I liked but was too expensive!!!!

We went to Egg at Fox Outlet, Patch and JK and even to Mama Mia on the shore - Everything was plain and frumpy looking *cue major sulk*

I did manage to get 2 tops in Glassons of all places (I think I'm a bit over their target age group ) but the tops are ok for home and weekends. I need tops for work though.

Anyone manage to get anything that was smart/casual and a bit funky/trendy looking?

Have you tried TM - I know your problem well - am desperately trying to find something to wear to a wedding at the end of the month that doesn't make me look like the size of a house. Down here in the deep South we have very limited resources as far as Maternity wear.

I did notice some nice shirts on the Egg website though.

I'm trawling TM right now, nothing jumping out at me though.

Good luck with your search, I'll let you know if I see anything Wedding-ish that won't make you look like the marquee

I didn't buy a lot of maternity stuff, just black work pants and 2 pairs of jeans. Other then that, Supre leggings are low cut so they fit under the bump, and the clearance dresses from there or glassons (the short skanky ones in gorgeous colours) make fantastic long tops. If you have a favorite store, go in and look for a top you like with a baby doll or empire line to it, and buy a size or 2 up from what you normally wear.

I got singlets from Glassons, they were $10 apiece and I figure I'll just stretch them to bits and then chuck them out if they are really that bad at the end! Most of my other maternity clothes came from K-Mart this pg'cy.

I go with pants from Egg or Patch and tops from regular stores (Glassons). My tummy never gets big enough for maternity clothes but my butt and thighs get well and truely big enough LOL. Still, I agree, I hate maternity close - heavy, dark and icky. No probs if you are a total stick and can order Next etc from the UK

Do you have any friends in the UK who could send you stuff Toni?

My luck was in being able to get a few more items from Canada this time around, to supplement my ordinary clothes and add to the ordinary clothes I can still fit into!

Have a look at mama2b.co.nz, they have some quite nice things & not *too* expensive.

But I hear ya. I've been trying to find some cargo-type pants but I've given up... it's impossible

If you got to Fox Outlet you must be near Northcote - go to Savemart. I have brought most of my maternity from there (hardly any black, I am pleased to say!) and it is so cheap. The clothes are in good condition, unlike TM you can try them on and the store staff are lovely.

Hey, I hear ya! I too think most maternity clothes are so boring, and also very expensive for what they are. If I'm going to spend the money I want something fabulous! I bought a couple of tops and a long cardi (to cover my big ole butt) from Max. The items were quite expensive but they are really smart so I could wear em to work and they have worn really well. Plus I haven't got sick of them, I still think they are cool. I reckon they will do me while I am deflating after bub is born. I was in Max the other day and a lot of their new season stuff is baggy and I was VERY tempted.... but I've just started maternity leave so am trying not to spend money, I sadly walked out of the store.

I totally know what you mean! Politely the clothes are sh*t out there.

I did get a top that I like from The Warehouse of all places but apart from that nothing. GRRR!

Oh, don't get me started!
So far I have coped with preggie jeans from Jeans West and Max and black pants from JK Kids, and a few tunics and leggins.
Max is great at the moment for long stretchy tunics/long tops and Country Road for long stretchy cardies. Also Witchery does good long tops that go over bump. I am quite tall and even when not pregnant find it tricky to find tops long enough for me... add a bump and it became VERY hard.
Good luck.

I was looking at the stuff on http://www.mobea.co.nz/ and thought I might get some of theirs when I'm needing to upsize. (unless anyone has seriously bad reviews about them....)

At the moment all I have is some jeans and a pair of black pants from patch (they were on sale and I couldn't help myself, still a bit big but oh so comfy)

I was thinking about this on the way to work. You know Annah S? Well, Garb is their "larger" size label. You may be able to find some trendy stuff that might fit in that range??

I have given up as I think they charge way too much for stuff that doesn't even fit or last that well. Last time I splashed out on Egg jeans and they were crap, then bought some PP jeans (on sale for $15) that stretched I reckon at least 1 size so can't wear them anymore, so this time I have bought a belly band and will just wear my old pants and bought a couple of nice tops.

I actually got some tops from Ezibuy that had some rouching down the side (the really long tops) so as the bump grows it accommodates it. And I think they were only $20-30 each.

I dont have any tops from Mobea but have a pair of merino pants I bought last pregnancy that I absolutely adore. Most comfy pants ever, even after baby. And they are really nice to dress up too.

I had a bit of stuff from Mobea and I them!! The merino pants are the best thing ever - like wearing PJs!! The tops are really nice to wear and it all washes very well.

There is also heaps of stuff in the regular shops at the moment that would do for the first 6 - 7 months. Lots of stuff with the empire line style. I don't like it at the moment at it makes me look 5 months pg even though I am not!!

I have bought very little 'maternity' clothing (one pair of jeans from kmart and some shorts from PP) and have managed to get lots of 'normal' clothes that have been great.
I got some skirts and dresses from shanton of all places, all $15 each. As I got bigger I've been wearing leggings under the dresses (as they have got shorter) The skirts have a huge wide waist band like a typical maternity skirt and are so comfy.
I also got a lot of stuff from K-mart.

I had a real surpise when I started looking for maternity clothes and for my body shape all the maxi tops/dresses , empire line and non maternity stuff just made me look a strange shape !

I managed to find a few tops that have lasted so far (29 weeks) from Egg in Albany and the rest from Seraphine and Isabella Oliver - both in UK and expensive but I decided to just get a few things that would all work well together. also - for the summer I got stuff from their summer sale which helped!

The seraphine jeans are awesome and way worth the investment! (cheaper to buy direct from UK and get shipped then here!)

Other than that you could check out other online possibilities - though I havent tested them since I spent my budget elsewhere! Check out those listed in the AUS Pregnancy Mags such as Queen Bee and Beautiful Bellies.

Happy shopping!

Have you tried the Maya range at The Warehouse? I just brought tops from there a few sizes bigger than I am normally. I also got a few tops from Postie Plus (again brought bigger sizes) and Kmart. I tended to stay away from the maternity outlets because like you said their stuff was a little frumpy.

I did splash out and get some pants from PP... oh and you must get those pants from Glassons that have the fold down waist.. so comfy. You could get away with wearing them to work if you get them in black.
