Hey for those that had their IUD put in at 6 weeks post partum...

Did it bring back AF within a few days?

If that's what it is....Bugger! I was hoping that BFing would keep it at bay for 9 months like last time.

Or could it be heavy bleeding cause I've had it put in & then I won't get AF for a while?

Feel great other than "discovering" this today

I had one inserted at 12 weeks pp and had to wear a pad for a few days for the bleeding but no AF per se. I'm breastfeeding too.

My Dr did it. The Dr on the corner of Sydney street.

It cost me $65 but I also paid $15 for an info visit. I got the Multiload. Plus antibotics for 3 days.

FP is cheaper but you need to go in two visits where as my Dr did all the tests & inserting in one visit. I guess this is cause he has my case history.

Bleeding seems to have gone away now PHEW!

I got mine (the copper, non-hormonal one) at Family Planning. $22.50 for first visit - test and check-up and $22.50 for insertion a couple of weeks later. It's cheaper again if you have a Comm Services card.

Great service, I really recommend. I chose FP over my GP because it's what they do daily. Was less uncomfortable than my last smear.

You really should go with FP if you can as they insert IUDs daily whereas your doctor might only do one once every couple of months and if not inserted properly it can cause a few problems.

Has anyone had the Mirena?? I am considering this for contraception but don't know anyone else that has had this inserted? My GP doesn't do it either and have been told to go to Family Planning and apparently they have to take some swabs first before inserting one?

While we're on the subject of IUD's, did you guys get the copper or mirena and why?

I didn't get the Mirena cause of the hormones it has, plus apparently it's more expensive.

I got copper as it's non-hormonal and I'm BF-ing.

Also the Mirena costs $300+. Though if you have a history of really heavy and painful periods I believe it can be subsidised, the nurse was saying.
