My midwife said it was good to aid contractions but then we started talking about something else so didnt really get any more info.
Ive googled it and I'm a bit confused, some things Ive read say to take it from 37 weeks (I'm 38) others say to take it during labour. I went into health 2000 today, they had it but the lady who was working admitted she knew nothing about it
I'm seeing my MW again on Tuesday so I know I can ask then but if I'm already meant to be taking it Id rather start now if that makes sense.

It is a homeopathic remedy, usually used when you are overdue (or close to due date) and/or in labour. I think it works a bit like raspberry leaf tea in that it tones the uterus, therefore, if you take it when you're nearly ready, it CAN kick start things, making for a shorter labour.
My MW gave it to me with my first (as I was 12 days overdue) - first dose was 200c then 30c for 6 doses after that. It gave me some mild period type cramps but didn't actually START labour, though I think it made my contractions (when they finally started!) more intense and useful...

I'm surprised it's being suggested as a pre-labour / during labour remedy, it's not something I'd be comfortable taking until after - and then only to assist with slowing bleeding and getting the placenta out. So even though it's a medicinal herb it is still a poisonous plant - and I'd be consulting with a medical herbalist or naturopath before taking it.

Ive only just started taking this. My MW suggested it to me, and said she doesnt usually tell poeple about it until they are 41 weeks but told me at 40 so i could have a think about it.
I was told to take it around 41weeks as it tricks your body into thinking it is more overdue then it really is. So effectively making your body want to go into labour much sooner. She also said everyone she has given it too has gone into labour naturally a couple days after taking it.
Im taking the 30c one every 15mins for an hour 3 times a day. Nothing much has happened yet except ive been getting more stretching pains.

Thanks guys. I ended up going into a Hardeys today and talking to the naturopath in there. She was really helpful and said not to start taking it until the midwife said to (normally once youre overdue)
She also said to take it during labour to assit with contractions.

Hi Sarah, there is a little homeopathy remedy called "Prebirth". That you can take before labour to help get your body ready. It has Caulophyllum in it at the correct dosages plus some other beneficial things & I highly recommend it, but definitely consult with your midwife before specifically taking anything. There is also a follow on formulation for labour which has higher amounts of Caulophyllum in it which I would also recommend
The 2-5 weeks before my due date I was taking 5W, EPO, Raspberry leaf tablets, Elevit & Pre-Birth. LOL not surpriingly I had my daughter on her due date

I looked into prebirth a few weeks ago but was told by both the naturapath in Hardeys and my midwife not to take it due to the arnica.
They both advised that its best not to take arnica until after giving birth as it can cause more bleeding and bruising.

Thats interesting because arnica is supposed to prevent that LOL! I certainly had no problems with bruising or bleeding as after the birth I had finished bleeding after a week and (TMI!!) Hubby & I were back having sex within 10 days....
It is best to take your midwife's advice of course but I just find that strange advice considering arnica promotes healing, particularly for bruising

According to my homeopath you need to be acareful with taking Arnica during labour as it can cause you to bleed more.
You are best to wait until after Labour to take it as it does help with bruising and healing with blood flow.
You are also not meant to take it before you have surgery but it is fine after.
