Hi I'm brand brand new to this and kinda lost/confussed... sooo much to take in
H and I have recently got married and shortly after returning home I went of the pill.. so we are trying but not trying at the same time IYKWIM?
We aren't doing a thing to stop getting pregnant and would be super happy if we were but at the same time we aren't trying trying, when it happens it happens.
the thing I am a little worried about is... since we recently got married we still have heaps of booze left (we gave away as much as poss) and so we are both enjoy a drink or 2 at the end of the day (which is out of the norm 4 us since we aren't really drinkers)
But what Im worried about is that If i am preg (way to early to know since we only started less than 2 weeks ago) does alchol damage/effect your baby this early? I will stop drinking for sure as soon as I know I am preg and not a drop until i finish breastfeeding but Im worried about now
the only reason im drinking is to use it all up before the expire date... but im worried

Nope it wouldnt hurt the fetus most of us would have had a drink (or two) before knowing we were pregnant. I know I had a few two weeks after I would have conceived .. and Isabelle is a bright wee spark!

I wouldn't worry about it too much Jem, if you're sort-of trying then I might cut back to 1 glass with a meal every other day or just on the weekends. I confess that after my partner left for Oz I went to the local with the girls and had 3(!) vodka and OJ's, then 2 weeks later was LATE for my period so tested and BFP! My midwife told me not to worry - that early on its more cell division than it is brain growth - and my girl is just fine! I didn't drink from the day I got the positive, still not drinking now as I have a booby baby.

It sucks but no one can give any kinda guarantee that it won't harm a baby in the early weeks after conception - the research is still inconclusive. Mum and bubs don't share blood supply until about 5 weeks when the placenta is functioning but some of the information I have read is that prior to this drinking can still effect the fetus... However, one to two drinks in a session is considered low risk at that stage from what I have read...
It's so hard cos that is the time when most people don't know and have no symptoms...
Also alcohol causes a rise in estrogen which can make getting pregnant more difficult and effect implantation...

sorry just read what I wrote and thought it sounded bit rough... I truly don't think a drink or two would be a biggie prior to the placenta kicking in but the reality is the research in inconclusive and therefore there maybe some risk...

I think most websites etc tell you that you shouldn't drink while ttc because at any time you could be pregnant ,but as others have said research is not conclusive as to whether or not it will cause harm.
When I told my Doctor I was going off the pill I asked about drinking while ttc and he said it would be pretty obsessive to completely stop drinking while tcc.
It's a really hard one and there has been the odd time I have drunk too much and started worrying in case I was pregnant. I hate feeling worried like that so now I am limiting it to having a couple of drinks now and again but none in the tww. I have decided this not just because of potential harm to the baby but also in case it prevents me from conceiving or preventing implantation etc. Also I just think imagine how awful I would feel if the baby had foetal alcohol syndrome or other problems/damage caused by my drinking....
It's always hard though in social situations when someone like me who used to drink a fair bit now doesn't drink much...most of my friends know why though.
In saying all of that though I think a lot of people drink and conceive perfectly health babies so I wouldn't worry too much if I was you

I wouldn't stress so many people don't realise they're pregnant and drink in the early weeks. My sister got hammered one xmas and didn't realise she was 7 weeks and her boy is 100% fine. I also was drinking while on holiday in Brisbane while around 6 weeks pregnant with twins and the girls are both fine. I guess its personal choice though mine was a complete whoopsie pregnancy so I didn't know but if I had been trying I would have put off drinking all together mayby just a beer or 2 but definitly not binge drinking or anything like that.

next thing lol
may last period started on the 29th jan
took my last pill on the 30th
period ended on the 2nd feb
and then this morning I woke up to blood (not alot) arghhh seems way to early for my next period. Is it normal to have very early periods after to get off the pill.
I was thinking that maybe the pill was still lingering around my body and now maybe all traces of pill might be gone and so therefore my body thinks hmmm period time????
Im just guessing anyone else have any other ideas?

Same thing happened to me, Jem. It'll take a few weeks for your body to come right after being on the pill. You'll probably notice you next cycle will be fine.
My obstetrician says that you should ideally limit yourself to no more than 3 drinks while you're TTC. I have my best friend's hens night plus two weddings coming up and I'm really starting to worry... In the past I've been a big binge drinker and so are most of my friends. The bride has unknowingly put the pressure on by telling me how much she's looking forward to having a 'few' drinks with me... I'm the matron of honour so I'm really stressing about this!

i felt soo guilty as i worked out id been drinking while pregnant. I confessed this to my midwife and she said if it was before your period was due chances of it doing harm are small. Because your body would have rejected it if it wasn't viable and you would have had a period like normal. I didn't explain that very well sorry. It reasured me alot. and my bubs was born healthy as anything plus one or two drinks won't do anything. If you were going out on the p*** each night it would be a different story. Good luck hun

Huh! that early "period" that i had only lasted 2 days and was soo super light... kinda weird calling it a period coz it didn't feel like one (i didnt get my pimples etc like normal)
hmmm coming off the pill sucks coz the last week or so I can feel that my hormones aren't right and im on a emotional roller coaster... Im kinda getting sick of crying over little things like that shade of green is really beautiful waaaa lol i feel like a idoit, poor Hubby doesn't know what to think lol either that or he just laughs at me silly boys

the last 5-6 days i haven't been drinking, for some reason i have gone completely off it and if i take a sip i actually feel real sick and vomit. i have no idea y having a drink is making me feel so sick, i dont even like the smell of it anymore
when i went to a wedding in the weekend with alot of heavy drinkers it was a lil hard coz we aren't telling anyone that we are trying and they kept looking sideways at me as if they thought the reason i wasn't drinking was coz im knocked up like 3 other girls there. So i had a small half glass to shut them up and stop them from thinking but felt sooo sick afterwards and for the rest of the night

I enjoyed my glass of wine far too much to want to give it all up while we were TTC. I'd just lay off the booze in the last 2 weeks of my cycle just to be sure.
