Hi Ladies,

My milk never came in properly so haven't been able to BF. I tried desperately even resorting to expressing but alas it's just not meant to be.

I'm still having minor leaking e.g. wet shirts and sheets and was wondering if there is anyway to dry what's left of my milk up and stop production??

It sounds odd but it's a constant reminder that I can't do it and would prefer it would go away so I don't have to feel bad about it any more.

Its different with everyone. I was the same as you, didnt come in properly and what was there was crap. I just used pads for leakage and left them alone. It will probably take a week or so to go away :) But yea, disposable BP's :D

You can ask your m/w to refer you to get some Milk Stop - that's what they give you in the hospital to stop your milk coming in (I won't be b/f this time so have enquired about it). Don't know if you can get it over the counter or not though sorry.

I just left mine, and I ended up getting mastitis, so Id go to the health shop and get some milk stop, its what I should have done but didnt.
My milk was almost gone aswell but my left side must have had more than the right and then i got the infection.

Your MW can pescribe you a tablet to take. Its just a one off and it should stop your milk.

I took it staight after having DS (as decided not to BF) and my milk never came in.

I went to the doc to get some meds to make it stop, BIG mistake! He didn't want to give me the pills because of the extreme side effects but I wouldn't take no for an answer I took one pill and within 20mins I was crawling on the floor (to stop from fainting) trying to get to the bathroom to vomit (over and over again) I slept for 2 days straight I was so ill my Mum had to watch the girls for a couple of days while I recovered and thats just from ONE pill I was meant to take a whole bottle! I really wouldn't recommend pills the best way (while very painful) is just to let it dry up naturally. My milk never came in fully anyway so it only took 24hours for me to lose it naturally, it was painful but not nearly as bad as those awful pills

P.S. These were pills from my doc not sure of the name I'm sure there must be more natural remedys from health store I just wasn't game enough to try anything else after my experience

That is wird, Lisa85.

The one I took, you only took one and I had not a single side effect so there is obviously a couple of brands.

Another friend of mine took prescribtion pills to dry up her milk too and only took one and had no side effects.

I would say that if you were going to take something for your milk, you would be best to talk to your MW/Ob as they are the ones that deal with it on a regular basis.

I've not been in this position yet but at Antenatal the other night we were given info about BF and using cabbage leaves etc.

The info I've just looked at says to put the cabbage leaves inside your bra so your whole breast is covered. Leave the leaves on day and night, changing them every 2 hours. The milk will be almost gone in 48-72 hours.

Cabbage leaves really do work. When you want to keep your milk and have masitis they say not to wear them for any longer than 20mins. Keep the cabbage in the fridge and wear the leaves in your bra, they feel great on hot, swollen breasts. There is also homeopathic remedies to stop milk, I've seen them in the pharmacy and they are just in pill form or as herbal teas.

Also Danaj, you can just try expressing when you start feeling full. If you have mastitis you'll need to get rid of the blockage before you try to dry the milk up (I think I'm right in saying that? Someone correct me if I'm wrong). What I did was just expressed when I needed to or let a little bit out in the shower and massaged the lumps under warm water in the shower (not hot as that stimulates milk production). Hurts like hell but it needs to be done. Good luck hun.

Danaj if you decide to try the cabbage leaves just don't put them over your nipples. I used them and they were great! For some reason they provide such relief!!
