When I'm 15 weeks preggy I'm going on camp with my class and it's an adventure camp. We'll be doing mountain biking, rock climbing, abseiling, a 200m flying fox and a few more things I can't think of.

Anyway, my Q is - can I do any of this while being preggy?? I love school camps and really want to take part but I'm not sure if I should. I'm going to ask my MW but wont be seeing her for another few weeks so thought I'd ask you ladies for advice.
My beautiful 2 girls...nearly 4 and 13 months

my main concern would be the harnessing. rock climbing is probably not the best because if you come off the wall the harness may jolt into your tummy. mountin bikinng depends on the course. id be really careful, unless it is a really cruisy course id be hesitant in case you fall off. flying fox and abseiling would also depend on the harness. id be really really careful and probably advise against most stuff but i did heaps of stuff i was told not to till quite far through my pregnancy cos i was stubborn. lol. id think really carefully about the degree of danger in each activity if i were you before you decide what to go ahead with. its only one trip, there will be more

I abseiled, mountain biked, did pretty much everything while preggie, but i did stop the climbing, I didn't feel that the climbing was too safe, just with the stretching up and all..

I did a bit of mountain biking while preggy and it was fine. Not sure about rock climbing or abseiling though?

When I was 19 weeks pregnant we went to Queenstown on our honeymoon to snowboard. I am a fairly competent snowboarder and was sooo looking forward to this trip.

Following the advice of my MW I did not board because of the risk of falling. There was also also the added risk of being "taken out" by someone else on the slopes.

She explained the risk of the placenta coming away and also the risk of seriously damaging yourself due to your ligaments being more flexible during pregnancy rather than the risk of just mildly damaging yourself.

There were lots of different opinions on Oh baby about whether there would be a risk or not and it was interesting reading about peoples experiences.

DH and I decided that I could go on the jet boat ride instead and then when we turned up there were signs specifically banning pregnant women. So our honeymoon was not the great adventure holiday I thought it would be but at least I know that I am "owed" some snow this season.

The sad news was that due the week of our honeymoon my friend who was 24 weeks pregnant actually lost her baby when her placenta was unable to provide the nutrients required for her baby after starting to detach. She wasn't on the honeymoon with us, (ie wasn't snowboarding) and hadn't had a fall or any other event which could explain why this occurred.

This was her second pregnancy, she was healthy, and no explanation has ever been offered other than it just being "one of those things that happen"

Things to consider
1. What did you do before you got pregnant. Ie if you biked and climbed regularly BP your body would be more used to these activities.
2. Risk of hurting yourself or being hurt by someone else ie another biker taking you out.

But you can't just sit on the couch for 40 weeks. Make sure you do some research, talk to your midwife and enjoy the camp.

Running T - I just went to Queenstown this past weekend and it didn't occur to me that Jet Boating would be one of the activities I couldn't do! (I knew about things like bungee jumping etc but not jet boating). Was a bit of a surprise when we turned up there and saw the signs. We were just about to pay for the trip as well when we noticed them - the signs said to inform the staff and so we did and the lady told me in a snotty voice that I couldn't go on it as it was too dangerous and looked at me as if I was so irresponsible and idiotic to even THINK about going jet boating while pregnant. So I slunk away a bit red faced. Lol.

I did go luging though which was awesome but not as dangerous and that didn't have any warning signs re pregnant women.

I went Snowboarding regularly up till about 16-18 weeks. Have to say my biggest fear was being taken out by someone else. Was fine but wouldn't have liked to start doing it cold  (we had been going to snow planet over the summer so was just contining with prepregnancy activity). MW told me bubs was pretty safe tucked up in my pelvis.  I think you just have to do what you are comfortable with.
