Topic: Energy Drinks Posted: 31 January 2009 at 3:39pm |
I'm low in iron, but mw has said she'll give me the form for the tablets when I see her on monday. But I am soooo over being tired. I can easily have 3 catnaps a day!
Is it ok for me to have one energy drink such as V just once to help me get up and do something before I get the script from her?
And how long will it take for them to take effect? They are just the normal ones you on a script.

It says on V's- not to take if pregnant. I definately wouldn't. I read that iron tablets take a while to get levels up, however I have had them for 3 days and am feeling better already.

Thanks. I don't have a V here, so didn't know what the label would say.
So once I get script, hopefully I might be feeling better by end of the week......

I have avoided V as I'd much prefer to have coffee (not a fan of all the stuff they load into V)... and just a tip to have your iron tabs with orange juice to help absorption.
Also if you find these prescription tablets end up bunging you up, I have been taking Spatone as an iron supplement myself and had *no* issues whatsoever (it's liquid so I just add it to my morning juice).

What about trying coffee or coke? High doses of caffeine should definitely be avoided but from what I have read you are allowed to drink the equivalent of up to 3 cups of coffee per day. I usually only drink one cup of instant coffee in the morning during weekdays but on the weekends I don't drink coffee so if I feel like it I can have some coke. Hope you feel better soon!

Definitely don't have any of the energy drinks, but I've also found 1 cup of coffee can give a short boost. But don't drink it when you're having your iron tabs, because the caffiene restricts the uptake of the iron.

V only has the same equivilent of caffine as a cup of instant coffee. I think its the guarana that is in the V that is the problem. It doesn't say to avoid for pregnant but reccommends limited amounts. I would goggle guarana and see what you think.

What about having a berocca? That might give you a little lift. If you decide to have the V maybe only have 1/3 can - it's probably all you'll need if you haven't had one in ages.

Energy drinks are bad for you anyways, I never drink them, so i imagine during pregnancy they would be a no no.

Thanks for all the advice.
Yip I remember having to take it with vit c. I'll ask about spatone - is it a script or over the counter item?
I don't drink coffee often and don't think I could restrict myself to 1/3 of a can of V lol.
Mel when I spoke to her she wasn't near a fax machine so we just agreed I'd wait til Monday. Oh well only 1 day...I hope it kicks in fairly quickly!

Nefertiti - Spatone is a widely available item, I'd say you'd have more luck at a health shop though.
Try Health Post and do a search for Spatone, last time I was on there and bought some they had an awesome special with the 28 packs (so a months worth).
And just FYI, there is 37.1g of sugar in a 350ml bottle of V...

it says on v that if you are a child, pregnant or lactating then v is not for you.they must mean it if they actually put it on the label.

You have a point mishel - but my bet is that they are just covering their arses in terms of liability if anyone became ill etc.

I suspect as much Pearls. I personally wouldn't touch it when pregnant coz of all the chemicals and stuff in it, but I'm a bit naughty and do have the odd one now even tho I'm breastfeeding...
