Topic: anatomy scans Posted: 27 January 2009 at 12:02pm |
haha, I hope I can make this post make sense !
now, scans (in particular the 18-20 week one) .
Im sure we are all of the agreement that a healthy baby is what we want to see ,but for those who have had the scans (and baby was healthy ) and were able to find out babies gender some random questions.
-was the gender what you expected ?
-were you disappointed ?
-as soon as you heard what the gender was , did you think "oh , ...damn" ?
-or were you thrilled ?
-were you wrong , but happy to be wrong ?
-or were you right, but not happy to be right ?
I have my scan tomorrow, and apart from wanting baby to be healthy , all I want is to see its bits ! I can't decide whether I want a boy or girl, that keeps changing , I just want to KNOW!

-was the gender what you expected ? No
-were you disappointed ? A little bit I guess but only because I knew DH had convinced himself it was a boy and we were having a girl.
-as soon as you heard what the gender was , did you think "oh , ...damn" ? I was a bit stunned cause it went from "It" to "She" in a matter of seconds. Suddenly became real.
-or were you thrilled ? Very, after the shock of it being a real live person wore off.
-were you wrong , but happy to be wrong ? I was thinking "boy" as well but I think that's cause DH put the idea into my head.
-or were you right, but not happy to be right ?
It wasn't the sex that scared me the most. It was seeing feet, hands and her mouth opening and closing. I had a friend come along and she took her video camera with her and videoed the monitor so I have the whole scan on DVD. They only give you a print out and it just doesn't do it justice. I suggest taking a person and getting them to film the monitor so you can look back at it. It very cool. I watch mine all the time.

so different from my scan with C, back then I just got a bunch of tiny pictures, and I still have no idea what im looking at

we actually had to ask the radiographer to go back and look for the sex, because she wasn't even going to look! so much for anatomy scanning....anyway she was totally crap, but i digress.....
-was the gender what you expected ? Yes - everyone thought it would be a girl, including me
-were you disappointed ? no, i always wanted at least one girl, so was really glad to have one as a first child...that was I really don't mind at all what the next one is (far away!). so was thrilled, and happy to be right.
the more interesting thing was just how uncooperative Natalie was, refusing to lie in a helpful position....the stubborness shows early, apparently!
good luck!

Well first of all we couldn't find out at the 20 week scan because he was all tucked down in my pelvis. I was VERY disappointed, so be prepared to maybe not be able to find out! Lucky for us we needed another scan at 28 weeks so were able to find out then.
-was the gender what you expected ? Didn't have any ideas as to what it might be!
-were you disappointed ? No
-as soon as you heard what the gender was , did you think "oh , ...damn" ? -or were you thrilled ? Was really cool to find out what he was but I didn't care either way. I think it took about half an hour before I started getting excited about it and him feeling like more of a person IYKWIM.

I was told at my anatomy scan for Jack that checking the gender of the baby is not part of the 'list' of things that they look for at an anatomy scan. Apparently it is an 'added extra' that people ask for.
Sorry, can't answer your questions as we are having a surprise again this time

yeah, I know, at Caitlyn's they said she was "more likely to be a girl " so not really a definite answer, more of a guess.
Health issues aside, thats my biggest fear this time, that baby will be an uncooperative little monkey, I honestly think if I dont find out tomorrow , I will cry .

was the gender what you expected ? YES
-were you disappointed ? HELL YES!
-as soon as you heard what the gender was , did you think "oh , ...damn" ? yES AGAIN!
-or were you thrilled ? HELL NO!
-were you wrong , but happy to be wrong ?
-or were you right, but not happy to be right ? YES
Of course now shes here, I wouldn't change her for anything, but I absolutely really did NOT want a girl, and if further children were in the pipeline, and they are SO NOT, I wouldn't want any more girls, either!

I think I did cry - I was so disappointed! Luckily it didn't last too long - I hadn't felt any movement till then and felt him move for the first time the day after the scan, which sort of made up for the fact that I hadn't been able to find out!
Good luck and hope you have a cooperative wee bubba in there!

With Jack I had to find out, I didn't sleep the night before cos I was so excited. I had a feeling that I would be disappointed if it was a girl (he was unplanned and my Dad wasn't too impressed but he said it would be great if I had a boy as he only had girls) and then I was so excited when I found out he was a he.
Caprece I had that same feeling of I'd be disappointed if it was a boy, I think I squealed with excitement when she said she was a girl. I honestly think I would of been quite gutted for a week or so if she was a boy.
Good luck for Tomorrow

-was the gender what you expected ? I had no idea, a few family members thought girl though
-were you disappointed ? Not at all
-or were you thrilled ? Yup!
I had no preference at all, am thrilled about our little man joining us, and he has 1 cousin so far who is nearly 2 and also a boy so will be cool to have the boys close-ish in age
In saying that, I REALLY wanted to know, absolutely couldn't wait. Even before I had even thought about maybe one day being a Mum I knew I would want to find out, that's just me. It's the first thing we said when we arrived so she checked that out first for us He was proudly showing off his bits!
Ultimately though, I was just so grateful that he's healthy!!!!

hehe, I hate surprises, thats why I want to know, Im too impatient to wait til baby is born , even tho I don't care what it is .
I do wonder tho, will I feel disappointed once I hear what it is , am I subconciously wanting one more than the other?

I really really wanted a boy... and got one and Mum and I both said YESSS my DH was gutted because he didn't want to find out! I guessed a boy so i was right.. we very nearly didn't get to find out..I would have been gutted! they gave me a whole cd of pics but not one of his boy bits..was gutted cause Mum and DH had no idea when she showed us what they were looking at!
I think that I would have been totally fine with a girl just happy as you say that bubs was fine..but maybe I would have taken a few mins to get my head around it..?
one more day till Tyler officially a boy:)!

Good luck for tomorrow! I was the same - I totally wanted to find out what we were having and would have been so disappointed if they couldn't tell! The scanner forgot to look even though we said we wanted to know so had to go back in.
I had a feeling from early on that it was a boy but started wondering if that was only because DH really, really wanted a boy. My biggest concern was that it was a healthy baby first and foremost but definitely wanted to know. I wasn't really worried either way what the sex was but DH in particular was absolutely stoked to be told we were having a boy!
Every now and then I think a little girl would have been lovely but I'm so pleased to be having a boy because I always wanted a boy first and I'm even more pleased that he's healthy!

Dp said he wanted a boy first when we were still TTCing (his family are hugely into League and Speedway, and he always wanted a boy he could do the things with that HE did as a kid) but when the sonographer said girl without missing a beat, the look on his face showed he didnt really care either way, he was just so thrilled to see baby, and to know which way we could look at names and go shopping lol!
Good luck tomorrow!

I soooooo wanted a girl. We'd actually decided not to find out, so it was at a scan at 28 weeks that we were accidentally told what we were having. I actually cried. Quite a bit.
It took me a couple of days to get my head around baby being a Joshua rather than a Charlotte (well, that was the name at the time!), but once I did I was really excited, and now he is just the most precious thing in my life and I would not change him for anything.
In fact if I was ever blessed with another child then I'd love another little boy

sooooooo?? what's the verdict kelly?
we found out what jack was, but left charli as a surprise. i was 95% sure she was going to be another boy, and i was really happy with that. but when DH said 'we've got a girl' i was over the moon but that could've just been shock and the drugs
with jack -
-was the gender what you expected ? YES
-were you disappointed ? YES for a day or 2
-as soon as you heard what the gender was , did you think "oh , ...damn" ? YES
-or were you thrilled ? NO
-or were you right, but not happy to be right ? YES

-as soon as you heard what the gender was , did you think "oh , ...damn" ? nope , and incidentally I could tell the gender before the sonographer said it
-or were you thrilled ? yup
-were you wrong , but happy to be wrong ?
-or were you right, but not happy to be right ?
