Topic: I want an ultrasound scan! Posted: 20 January 2009 at 8:39pm |
But I rang the Radiology Department at Dunedin Hospital today to see where they were at with the appointment request my Dr sent through last week - and they are booked solid for all of January and February!
They are hoping someone will cancel so that they can fit me in somewhere....
Might try to ring Mercy Hospital tomorrow to see if they have any spaces - I so don't want to be waiting for weeks and weeks. Is it normal for them to be so booked? and will I have to pay for the scan if is done at Mercy without a request from my doctor?
Oh and do the people that take your 1st antenatal blood test usually get back to you with some sort of results? Or do they only get back to you if something is wrong?
Didn't really get much direction from the doctor about what I need to organise in terms of tests or scans or what he was going to organise and am starting to feel like I don't really know what I should be doing or should have had done by this stage at all.
Sorry for all the questions - I usually think of myself as pretty competent and laid back but at the moment I am feeling SO clueless and dumb!

In regards to your test results, just ring your clinic and ask for your test results, my medical centre allows results to be read over the phone by the nurses so long as the doctor has looked at them first.
Dont know how the system works down there re. scans tho sorry

Hey...
Those are all sorted by your midwife when you decide who you will stick with scans, blood tests etc
Personally- I went through Mercy- cost $25 for the scan, but you get results back next day (for 12 week nuchal fold scan), whereas the public system can take long time apparently.
Id chat to the mw about it.
Oh and- you are not alone in feeling a bit clueless if this is your first..... I was exactly the same. But it kinda just happens... the ball starts rolling.

I was naughty... wel my LMC was. I didn't know how far along I was so my LMC told the hospital I had had some light bleeding/spotting over night and got me in for a scan that day! Found out I was 12 weeks
So if you get a good LMC she might get you in on the sly hehe

Oh thanks! You have no idea how much better your guys answers make me feel.
Mercy sounds like a good idea (I was thinking like $70 for a scan - $25 is not too bad), I hope they are not too booked when I ring tomorrow.
And yep definitely my first as you can tell by my wild naive questions about everything (I even did loads and loads of research before we conceived and still the crazy questions )
Haha cheers guys!

All my results have gone straight to my MW and she's showed them to me when we have our next app. Mine have all been great so no need for her to contact me which she would if anything needed attention.
I have to pay $40.00 for every scan but the balance is subbed so not too bad.

I've had my scans at Mercy, they give great service for your $25, well worth it! Hope you get in soon, I don't imagine it would be a problem though.
And I didn't have a clue what to do at the start, once you get your midwife you'll find things sort themselves out. And reading these forums helped me tremendously!!

Hi
I'm in Dunedin too and you pay for the first 3 scans (had mine at Mercy) after this the scans are free. Might be helpful to book in with a Midwife she will be able to answer a lot of questions you have and direct you on scans/tests etc. Albany Midwives were great (I was under Elizabeth)
