Topic: Dentist??? Posted: 24 January 2009 at 8:13am |
I've had a pain in my jaw radiating up through my ear for a couple of days. It's getting worse and quite painful this morning. My wisdom teeth are long gone and I can't seem to link the pain to a specific tooth. I had all the fillings re-done on that side a couple of years ago after an extraction. The pain isn't terrible, but it's worse than yesterday and I can't lie on my right side now due to the throbbing.
So, if I go to the dentist, is there anything they can do anyway?
Can getting an infection hinder labor coming on? Just that I know some people have said the body will not go into labor if you're unwell.

Poor you!
I would've thought they could - I've been to the dentist while pregnant and had fillings done with local anesthetic - checked with my midwife first and it was fine. Probably they can't do x-rays but if they can figure out what it is without x-rays they should be able to do something.
If it was me I'd definitely go and get it checked out, god this stage of pregnancy is bad enough without adding toothache
Hope you get it sorted.

It could also be a sinus infection/problem, my teeth aren't the best and if I'm getting a cold or my sinus are irritated the pain can radiate to my teeth which is a weak point and yes have had the pain go up the side of face and feels like bad ear ache also, the stress from the pain also adds to the problem. Try pushing up on your teeth one by one to see if you can isolate a tooth, if not you may be better going to a dr instead. Good luck, I can cope with pain anywhere else but teeth/face is the worst!

Go get it checked out, they wont usually do xrays when your pregnant , but they can at least look to see if there are any fractures, or holes that you have missed.
Xrays are handy cos it will show how close they sinuses are but dentists prefer not to do them when your'e pregnant (im a dental assistant , and the dentist wont allow me anywhere near the room when hes doing an xray )
Hopefully the dentist will be able to sort something out for you , at least to stop the pain , toothache on top of pregnancy ,not fun .

Can't seem to isolate it to any particular tooth. In fact, there is no pain in my teeth when I push on them at all. It seems to be coming from the jaw area just behind the last molar. Does that make sense? It's bearable at the moment and panadol took the pain away for about an hour but eating is quite painful.
So, does that sound like a doctor or a dentist thing? Don't want to waste money on one if they're going to send me to another.

Acutally, it feels just like an impacted wisdom tooth, but I had them out years ago so it's not that.

Yeah , the problem is that often happens, patients come to see us but the problem is more a doctor thing so they get sent there first .
Do you know if you grind your teeth in your sleep or anything?

I don't think I do. Should I head to to doc first? I might head down to the local after hours if that's the case.
It's obviously my jaw/face/ear but my teeth don't hurt in the slightest. I can even push them upwards with no pain. I've been asleep for the last couple of hours as I feel so tired with it. Just no energy to deal with extra pain at the moment. Just feel like curling up and crying now cause it's getting worse.

This is weird....Now the other side of my jaw is getting stiff as well. I can feel pressure on my right eye too. What the heck is going on with my face?!?!?! No swelling which I thought was odd. Making this horrid clicking sound when ever I open my mouth and my mouth moves off to a left hand angle after the click when ever I open it. Too weird, i'm going to the doctor today!

Even weirder.....The pain has all but gone. Just feels a bit sore like a bruise. It's still clicking but I can open my mouth straight now.
I guess I should head to the docs anyway just to be safe. I hate waiting rooms!! Not to mention the hideous cost cause it's not my GP. Isn't it weird how things always hit at either 2am or on the weekend??
My dad made me feel better by telling me a sore jaw is the first sign of a heart attack. Thanks Dad!!! LOL!!
oo, no, here comes the pain again......this is getting really annoying!!
Anyone want to take bets on what's wrong with my face lol?

good to see there are no more posts so maybe she made her way to the dr's , I used to have a clicky jaw but never had any pain with it. With the pain also coming into the eye area it could be a sneaky sinus problem setting in and of course a bit of stress to help constrict the blood vessles a bit more

It's all but disappeared. I was going to go down to the after hours place but it was PACKED when I drove past and you can sit there for hours.
Still a bit sore but the pressure has gone down, clicking a tiny bit but nearly normal. If it's still there at all in the morning then i'll go back down. Seemed like everyone decided to have medical emergencies today lol.
I know I should have gone in but my back was sore so I went to the T&T sale instead.

sounds like a much better place to be rather than sitting at a dr surgery, how is it feeling today? If its still a bit "tight" pm & I will try to give you some points that you or DH can just do some light massage which may help a little.

Actually it's heaps better today which surprised me. I was expecting to wake up at some ungodly hour with horrific pain but I feel alot better. It was a tad sore this morning when I was eating toast but I haven't even thought about it for a few hours now.
Maybe I slept on a funny angle or twisted it slightly enough to aggrivate the jaw? Who knows. As long as it's not a tooth.
