With Jack we used NapNaps (fitteds) from the day he came home from hospital and they were great as we never had any leaks. However they made his bum really big.

So I was wondering if I should start with prefolds for this baby until they get a bit bigger and grow into the NapNaps better.

What do you think? Is this a better way to go?

Depends on the nappy needs of the 2nd baby and if you have enough cash to buy another system.

A lot of people go with prefolds for newborns, but I personally never liked the extra labour of soaking etc compared to other systems.

Why am I likely to have to soak them? Do they get dirtier than other systems?

I have continued working 1 day a week (rather than giving it up ) to help pay for the new things I want so am hoping to be able to buy a new set of nappies. I probably won't buy a large amount as I will have the NapNaps as backup, Jack is currently in pockets.

I was just worried that small (or newborn?) pockets might leak around the legs if we have a small baby. What other system is good? Sized fitteds? I would rather buy them before baby is born rather then trying to cart 2 kids around the shops looking for some.

We used pockets from about 2 weeks (had sposies to use up initially) and a couple of times they leaked when I hadn't put them on the right snap setting but leaked far less in that time than the sposies had!

We are going to use a combo of prefolds and small pockets in the early days. I won't be soaking the prefolds. If they end up stained from not soaking them I don't really care so long as they are clean

I never soaked my prefolds - just hung them in the sun if they got stained & they came up as good as new! I found prefolds with a snappi pretty good on a newborn & they are quite cheap to buy too. The prefolds are handy later on too as stuffing for pocket nappys, burp cloths etc

As I've never had a newborn in cloth before (we went straight to pockets with Leo at 5mths) I've gone for a combo on fitteds, AIOs and pockets for the new baby (due March). I have picked up everything preloved on either TM or TNN and although they're all in excellent condition it's only cost me a fraction of what it would have if I'd bought new. I only expect baby to wear them for the first 6-8wks or until medium Itti Bitti's fit
