Hello mama's!
I am in need of some advice!
This is my first pregnancy and I am 18 weeks pregnant and two weeks ago I went to the OB and was told a week later that I had a UTI and was tested positive for GBS. I was told to take antibiotics and that was that. The more I researched and spoke to family members who are nurses and my sister who has had 4 children they instructed me to go more of a natural route. I am pursuing a more natural route and had asked my Dr. if I could schedule another appointment to see if my colony count for GBS went down or if I am now negative but she told me that regardless if I am negative they need me to take the antibiotics to basically cover themselves that they gave me "quality care". Which I understand but I am confused if I need to take the antibiotics NOW during my early pregnancy or if it is more of a precaution when in labor due to the high risk of passing to the baby.
I am just very confused to GBS in early pregnancy and if I am hurting my baby if I do not take the antibiotics now. Since I have read conflicting articles stating "Pregnant women cannot take antibiotics to prevent early-onset GBS disease in newborns before labor."-CDC Then other articles state miscarriages or still births so I am looking for guidance of any women who have had GBS in early pregnancy and how they handled.
